So I purchased my truck early January and with the snow and extreme cold never had a chance to get under the truck to get some fluid film on it. With it still being cold, salty and snowy, is it best to just wait for the spring to apply a coating or next fall before next winter or should I try to get some on there now? Thanks in advance! Zach

I have no experiance with it... Yet.

But you want a clean surface to keep the crap off. If you just apply it over everything I doubt it would stay on that well and would seal the shit under it...
    I assume.

I'm definitely doing my truck next fall. Sand, touch up and fluid film

Ya I've been religious with the carwash when I can. But figured I'll have to wait for nicer weather to get under her and clean her up and then coat.

Fluid film is oil based, if theres dirt it will soak in and protect. Even though it is always better to clean it off before. Deff wouldn't hurt if you sprayed and there was some dirt. Deff not going to seal anything in or hide.

I would think once all this nasty weather passes, get under there and give it a good thorough cleaning and then have it applied asap. Or is something to applied seasonally? like should you do it before every winter? If so, after this bad weather give it a real good cleaning and then wait until fall to apply before next winter.

I power wash mine in the Fall. Once it dries, I put Thompson's Water Sealer in a spray gun and coat everything underneath.

3 year old truck and not one spot of rust on the frame.... it looks very new. Water beads right off and it doesn't attract a speck of dirt.

I pressure wash - wait a bit and apply! It repels any remaining water right off!

Yup, I do it every Fall. I lay out some poly on the garage floor, get on a creeper, put a mask on..... and spray that shit on like I didn't pay for it. :D

Seriously, water beads off like the frame is wax paper.... No color change to the frame either.

Breath man. Calm it down. Your frame isn't going to rust awayover one winter. I know guys who haven't touched their frames and they are fine. This is a tacoma forum full of ocd nuts like myself. The rust thing is overblown. A few bad years and everyone pisses their pants about their frames rusting out unless they wash it every other day and waste time and money applying this product or that. Drive the truck. It's not a Ferrari so stop stressing

Was lazy and ran out of time but might try this next year. How much do you buy to do your truck and if you don't mind what does that end up costing you?

I have a left over 5 gallon can that is a few years old, but you can get a 1 gallon can at Home Depot or Lowes, that will last you for 4 to 5 applications.

    +1 on the spray method.

The first two years I did FF, I applied by hand, literally. When I first bought the truck the frame was clean enough I used a brush and then smeared it all over the frame as I had bought a gallon container. I bought a pair of aerosol cans each year to do the trouble areas inside the boxed section.

This past year I sprayed it with my compressor and the easy of application was night and day. I still got the same heavy thick coat in all the areas (including the box section with the wand) but it was half the time and I didn't wear nearly as much of it.

Got a buddy who takes wd40 and spays the inside the doors and behind the bumpers and everywhere else. Less mess and good results. He has a 1998 dodge and no rust yet in ohio! I have the fluid film for the frame and wd everywhere else.
