Few people actually enjoy management I think, just my opinion there. But it is stressful usually ... I have friends who think I'm crazy for avoiding management positions because of the potential for more money ... But there comes a point, at least for me, when quality of life means a lot. Of course having the military retirement check already coming in is what gives me the option.

that answers my question. Good luck to you with getting the field job. Smart way to go about it ... No matter what folks say, and fair or not, networking is the way to a good job. Period and no bs.

 

Come down here. We have tons of people retiring now. As long as you have your certs you will be in, test is easy. Starting pay is around $52k which isn't bad for entry firefighter every year you get a raise. Insurance, pension and a whole month vacation every year.

Networking that's how I got my last two jobs. There's a bunch of us that keep each other in the loop on positions that are open. Still up to the individual to go after a job if they want it.

Southeast snow crisis buy up all the bread and milk ... i grew up with that; actually remember my Mom sending my brother and I to the store 2 miles away puling our sled when she was scared to drive in the snow to buy groceries, mostly bread, milk, and eggs. Living here now it makes me

 

I grew up in Michigan and while it doesn't hold a candle to Alaska winters all the fearmongering in Denver the day before we got a foot of snow over two days blows my mind. As does the amount of people who can't seem to handle driving on snow, or ice.

It's not that big of a deal people, argh!

I went to the grocery store the day before the snow started and they were out of ground beef because people bought it all up. It was freaking crazy!

I'd think Denver would be more accustomed to snow and not go into panic buying mode. That really does surprise me.

Denver's one of the fastest growing metro areas and has seen a huge influx in the last 18-24 months. I suspect this may be the reason but it's still odd to me.

Too many damn people out here now; though it's way less than the east coast, west coast or the Detroit metro area where I grew up for the most part, but it's still too many damn people but that's pretty much the problem anywhere these days.

 

Yep, people ... I hate them.
