FWIW Brady - my cousin is in the AF too and he opted to stay in when his 15 years came up. He felt it would be better in the long run - for the benefits like you mentioned. I think he's got 18 years in right now.
Staying enlisted kinda sucks for him as they keep deploying him and his kids have to go live with their POS mother. I feel sorry for the kids getting bounced across the country every time he gets sent away but hopefully they won't have to deal with it as frequently as in the past.

And I would rather stay here in Seattle than move again. The opportunities for Levi are a whole lot better here than in KS. Only downfalls are, no grandparents in the LOCAL area. Mine are 4 hours away, and hers are a plane ride. Had I been in this same situation at my 10 year mark, I would have probably opted out. But I was in KS and in a horrible place.

I didn't really answer this question, and it's hard to answer subjectively. Objectively it's worth ballpark $30,000 a year for the rest of your life. Do your own math to estimate what your retirement check will be and go from there.

Also, look into what kind of rating you're likely to get from the VA. You're eligible for that compensation regardless of retirement or separation.

Brady, remember my initial gut answer was yes based on what I know of your personal situation. It's not an easy decision. The good side is you are starting to think about it early enough to do your research and evaluate the pros and cons thoroughly.

I've got a good friend who will be able to help me make a resume up. I think I am going to build one and send it out to companies around my 14 year mark. See what opportunities present themselves. That'll be one of my milestones.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that my cousin left so compelled to stay in that he was willing to endure another X years of misery dealing with his ex wife and shuffling the kids around when he deploys than to get out, get a civilian job and tell his ex GTFO and get full custody of his kids. Must be worth it to stay in.

Depends. He wasn't offered a 15 year retirement I am guessing. And it also depends on his job and what he is marketable for on the outside.

I think he could have left but choose to stay in. He's at Hill in Utah, works on drones or rather the computer systems that run the drones.

3rd offer accepted. 10k off their asking price. Inspection may show a bunch of stuff that needs to be fixed. Let's hope for a decent amount... bring that final price down another 10k or so.

    :woot:  :woot:

Brady, I didn't clearly state this: If you get a 15 yr RETIREMENT option, that is a "no brainer." Just in case that isn't obvious for you. ;)

I've seen them, but last time I saw them, Annie was still taking her pills. Been using string cheese for three days now to get the pills down, plus a banana tonight. I'm going to try a different dog food and maybe she'll like that more :notsure: Used to have to jam pills down their throats, but the meat dog food / baby food was a miracle for awhile... Oh, well.

hmmmmm how cheap?? and what tires?

Boogers are smart at times

    :yay: congrats!!!

Ok, now I think I'm clear on where you're at. Your committed to getting your retirement; if they offer 15 yr option you'll take it, if they don't, you'll stay to 20.

Honestly, that's how I'd play it. I've never been much of a gambler/risk taker.

Susan, if they offer a 15yr retirement, how is that a bad option?
