You seem to ask for a lot of advice on here.

Set up an account on weldingweb.com and ask away. You'll get industry pertinent information and suggestions from those that are actually involved in the trade. I'm not saying the advice garnered here is poor; but I guarantee you'll walk away with a lot of valuable information and a new perspective via posting there.

Taking our welding midterm today, 8 inch butt joint with backstrap (1/4" gap) welded in vertical position with the top of the plate 20" off the ground.
Only the root and caps will be graded.
FCAW with 1/4" plate so it shouldn't be to bad.

Can somebody tell me what part is burned up in this gun. It is a Miller Spectrum 375 with an ICE-27C gun.

So the parts inside that are not serviceable? Or can I just buy the whole assembly that's pictured?

I tried to find the BOM for that torch, it doesn't show anything but consumables. Which sucks. The torch is $350 at Cyberweld :(

Started on my bumper. Needed to extend the frame a bit. But welded some 2 x 3 1/8" tube to the frame horn.

Welding to old iron with remnants of undercoating in the tube is just a pain. That shit burns real easy. No onder when cars burn, they burn hot!

WededIMG_20150225_155326_43d6127a80c64b02bd3acdd5802d7f03d495cce2.jpg some 3/16" plate to the frame horns. This will be the basis of the bumper.

There is actually 2 plates in the pic. So far have the pilot holes. !/2" holes to be drilled.

Welded the 2 x 4 supports to the second plate. Once built, I will be able to tilt the bumper in or out usiIMG_20150225_162059_f0bd6d1c499d3e4953f1fefa1ad00dcf9acb1496.jpgng washers as spacers. Allowing the bumper to be adjusted easily.

The cardboard was used to find the exact height of the top of the bumper. It was too difficult estimating how tall to make the bumper uprignhts.

Started cutting out my pieces using templates. I had already made the bumper out of cardboard, just needed to trace and cut with the plasma cutter.

I still get amazed at how nice of a cut the plasma cutter does. Almost as nice as a shear.

Started welding up the panels. I like to just weld the inside and grind the outside flush. Much less risk of burn thru.

The wings or whatever you call the needed to be pulled in a bit, so I just used a long bar clamp to get the joint to tighten up.

Test fitting the bumper and did some grinding on the joints. The bumber is just sitting on the supports.

This is as far as I will be able to make it until this weekend. Lots to do, but it is so much fun. Please feel free to critique me.

This is what I started with during the mock up stage. I thought the cardboard bumper looked a bit "thick", so I narrowed the cross piece and the sub wings.
