Neat pic. of an eagle, we see them along the Delaware river a lot when we are fishing during the day.

OOPS! You are correct, it happened to a guy here in town. He's not over 6' tall, so they must not have been too picky that day!

Afternoon all. Enlisted in the USN and volunteered for west pacs, VN Helicopter squadrons anything west coast after "A" school and being a native NY'er I spent 2 1/2 yrs. in Warminster PA at what we called the country club. two hours from home:eek:. Last 10 months in did sea duty on a med cruise as ships company GM division aboard the Forrestal. Friend I signed up with did several west pac cruises (he went in right away while I chose to spend the summer a free man:D). Regardless of the branch of service we all were in, I'm sure we all learned respect and discipline. What I resented the most, was some undrafted(medical, dodger, whatever) calling me a baby killer and other expletives. I feel every able body person should do at least 2 years of military service (college can wait) of course there will be exceptions that will keep some out. But very few.

Moving on, Hey Susan, I'm running Firestone Destination A/T's and am very happy with them somewhat aggressive tread but not noisy(well maybe just a little).

I was in the last year to get sequence numbers for the draft - they classified those with numbers under 100 - I was 57 and was classified 1A. That was '73 though and they didn't draft anyone. I went off to college, eventually joined Marine PLC and was classified 1D. I was in the Naval Flight Officer track and, since they were cutting aviators at that point, when I went to Quantico for my first 6 weeks of training, 40 of us were told we had borderline high blood pressure. We were put on 3Xday monitoring by a corpsman. Amazingly, no matter what I was doing, my and everyone else's blood pressure readings were 140/80...the cut line to eliminate you for flight training. I was told that I would be discharged for medical reasons - which invalidated my contract - but that I could re-sign for ground option. A few months later I got a new draft card...4F.

A year later I was in Army ROTC and you can imagine the talking I had to do during my qualification physical for commissioning. After spending 45 minutes with an Army PA I was sent to see the doctor and told I would probably not be accepted. He looked at my chart, asked if I had any problem with my blood pressure - I said no. He looked at the fact that I had had knee surgery when I was 17 and asked if it hurt - I said no. He looked my in the eye, grabbed a stamp and slammed Combat Arms Qualified on my physical. And 26 years after commissioning I retired.

Sue - I run Nokian Vatiiva All Terrains on my truck and have been very happy with them. They aren't tremendously expensive, either.

I have been through a 2 week nightmare with our Chocolate Lab, Charlie. Had a huge lipoma removed that turned out to be a low grade cancerous tumor. Should be fine. A few days after surgery he refused to eat or drink and was moving very haltingly. Into the vet, IV fluids and antibiotics, back in the next day for a repeat and he was good. Three days later he crashed even worse - high fever, elevated blood count, not eating or drinking and weakness in hind legs. On to the emergency and internalist specialist. More IVs and antibiotics as they tried to figure out what it was. By this point, his rear lymph nodes were swollen and on exam they found a huge mass near his rectum. We all assumed cancer and this was the end. After talking over options, I agreed to have them do a needle biopsy of the mass and lymph nodes to confirm the cancer. They stuck the mass and realized it was a hugely swollen and impacted anal gland... They expressed it, changed antibiotics and I brought him home this evening. He'll go back in about 10 days to have a short surgery to remove the compromised anal gland but he is on the mend!! Yahoo! Charlie survives another scare.

Weather has been cold here in northeast PA. Lynn and I have continued to head out to the spa for a morning dip - on Monday it was -14.

    exactly

... And Susan, I think they've changed the name on the Nokian Vativa ATs to "Rotiva AT." I ran a set on Kristi's Escape and a friend runs them year round on his Tundra. Very good all season tire with slightly aggressive tread, but nice road manners.

    Morning all:
    X2 Paul!
I was a BM and the rate quota opened up due to the amount of them that were getting killed as coxswains on the boats in Nam. Maybe should have been a sub sailor, totally safe until a malfunction causes it too reach crush depth, then they implode and the whole crew is lost. Only one of ours hit an undersea mountain, they were lucky and made it back to be repaired.
Those flight decks of carriers are also JUST A LITTLE BIT DANGEROUS!!!
Don't get hit by a pelican hook when dropping anchor, and if you hear a tight cable singing get the hell out of there, if it snaps you may get cut in half, we were also told we had something like 3-5 minutes to live, if we went overboard in the North Atlantic.
Come to think of it, should have got the girlfriend pregnant, married her, and just stayed home, wasn't that was another out!
Yea, maybe we weren't getting shot at, but there's a lot of other service men that lost their lives without being designated as KIA!

Last winter was bad enough. This winter has been something else again. The whole month of February, it has only been above 30^ once or twice. Most of the time it has been between 0^ and 25^, which means the snow never goes away. Wife and I will be taking a trip to Destin FL in a couple of weeks for a get-a-way. Can't wait.
