added at least +1000 expo points today by installing Jerry's (BAMF) old bed rack, I had to modify the rails to work with the cage I have in my bed, then I mounted up a 4 gal rotopax. I still have some water jugs, axe, shovel, and maxtrax i need to find a home for before MOAB, along with the tire swing up that Jerry is going to finish for me.

So for those who have RTTs and mountain bikes. How do you transport both at the same time? I'm looking for ideas.

if it wont fit in your bed, youre looking at roof rack, tire carrier for the back, or a custom carrier on the front.

There was one guy that built mounts that extended slightly off the side of the truck so he could mount bikes beside the RTT

That's pretty much what I did with the tent on my trailer. Similar thing would work on a truck.

Yah I like the mounts off the side of the bed. Ideally I want to be able to mount 3 or more bikes. I was looking into the North Shore style bike rack where they hang off the back. The only downside is the bikes are in the firing line if you get rear-ended or back up into something. Definitely want to keep them off the roof though.

The rails come out to about 1" shorter/narrower than the side mirrors. Handlebars clear the tent by a few inches. Have yet to test them as rub rails, mainly just in the brush.

Do you ever worry about hitting your handlebars on a tight trail? Any other cons to the setup or things you would change if you did it over?

I found a small problem the other day with carrying a flippac on the bed sides of my truck and was wondering how other people have been mounting there shell or have seen the same problem I have. The flippac has been on the truck for a year, and i have seen some dirt road in that year. I mounted the flippac on the bed side on some plastic abs planes i use to cover the holes in the top of the fender.

I recall a thread by banned member Boyd, (I think), where he detected this issue and provided some kind of remedy. If I ever take my shell off, I'll pop the plastic rails and take a look myself.

How hard is it to take the plastic covers off the bedsides? I have a shell on now and I think the caps are allowing a little bit of water to seep in

Pull it harder. Use a flathead to move the tabs inside if you're really worried but they just pull right off. They're not that delicate I've had mine on and off a couple times. Just take your time.
