That's a sweet skid Nathan, put my name in the hat for one of those when you start getting some made. How is it held on the sides under the tank itself?

The skid weighs about eight pounds, lol. The steel skids weigh more than 40.

 

That is big difference.

 

Especially since we have all the weight on the drivers side already.

 

yea we do my driver side wheeling bearings takes a hit from that. I about to replace the third one.

 

Damn! I'm out on the road so I'm not going to jinx myself by saying I haven't had issues with mine.

I like the cloth strap idea... I made some metal bars with bent ends and one tapped side to latch on where the stock straps sit. This is on my Ford though

 

are you concerned with the straps fraying/breaking if they get run over a rock?

 

based on all of the scars on my steel gas tank skid, his straps do not sit in an area that is exposed to rocks and debris. if you hit a strap with a rock hard enough to damage it, odds are, you're going to be replacing your drive shaft from the same hit. being 1/4'' UHMW, it will also flex upwards where obstacles contact the skid, lessening applied pressure, especially around the edges.

 

Any concern with landing on an obstacle and the skid starts to indent the gas tank or whatever engineer logic makes sense with those words lol

 

The areas where the straps sit also wrap up on the sides of the tank. Even so, if you rip one you can just re string it with a piece of webbing and be on your way.


On another note. I flexed out with my not so flex rated shocks and blew one of them. Oops

It's a good thing Phills bringing a couple backup shocks up with him. I pretty much knew these weren't going to last the weekend.
