random & unrelated question, but for you guys that have the soft tops (Bestop?), how do you like them? I'm gonna need something to protect my bed cause I have some new family additions coming (twins ). I might have to throw a stroller and some gear in the bed, so I'd want to make sure everything is protected/dry. I'm not sure if the soft tops are "lockable"? my truck isn't the primary vehicle, but I need something just in case we have to use my truck.

there's other options like roll-n-lock, or tri-fold covers, but I might need the extra vertical room in the bed. I called Aloha Toppers for a quote on a Snugtop Xtravision, and it would come out to just over $3k :(

    anyone have other suggestions?

my bestop has served me good, had it maybe 3 years now.

I added cables with small locks to secure the zippered windows on the 'installed' position, so no one will be able just walk up and pull the zippers.

Bestop has tinted side windows, and soft-topper doesn't...but seems to be made from the same stuff.

I think either one shipped here is in the $800 total cost range....about 1/3 the cost of the hard top.

Congrats! I was in the same situation, needing somewhere to store the stroller. I was wanting to go the softopper route, but ended up going with a tri fold from bak flip. It has a vinyl covering over all the panels so it looks like one piece, instead of all the visible creases. You have to open the tailgate to access the latch to open it, so the bed will be secure with the addition of a tailgate lock. It's easy to open, and fully open, it gives full access to the bed and rests against the back window to protect it. I think it was 7 hundred or so with free 2 day shipping from Amazon.
Also, there isn't much security with a softopper. It shouldn't take more than a pocketknife to get into one.

I went with a Bak Flip also but mine is the roll up style.
That one is all aluminum with a vinyl top and will roll up and not block the rear view mirror.
Also has the same lockable features that Ryan described.
I also have the Pop-N-Lock electric.

That's a good point to mention, it protects the rear glass from whatever load your hauling, but you can't see out of the rear window. That's where the reverse camera comes in, if you have one. I still have to install my electric pop and lock.

I got the roll up version so i can keep an eye on my bikes when i transport them. But gotta watch the front fender on street bikes cause the roll up hangs low and will scratch the fender.

shoots, thanks for the feedback! I gotta look into the roll-up style covers. are those lockable too?

also, who has non-Snugtop camper shells, like ARE, Leer, etc.? just curious where you guys got them. Aloha Toppers? that's the only camper shell place I know of. most likely not going that route due to cost, but I wanna keep my options open.

I love my Snugtop.. may not be the most popular among the ranks, and you could have some height issues, but for utility (shopping, camping, fishing, yard stuff, moving, hauling), it works VERY good..

Its kinda a dime a dozen, but keep on the lookout on CL.. that's where I got mine years ago.. If I ever get a 3rd gen, one f the first things going on it will be another Snugtop..

I was gonna go with a Leer, but never got around to ordering one. Was a bit cheaper then the snugtop and I liked the dual handles on the rear glass..

On a side note, I just ordered my sliders and U bolt flip kit with timbrens from All Pro... couldn't pass up the free shipping to Hawaii deal they had this month. Just gotta make some removable steps. Anybody able to cut and weld aluminum? Aluminum preferred, but can do steel if easier.

how high are you going? shouldn't really need uca's or brake lines IIRC

if someone mounts the coils on the 5100s, shouldn't be that bad of an install

I don't have any space or tools here, but I'd be down to help at a mod day. lol
