I noticed that my 2014 Tacoma rear brakes are starting to squeal at low speed.

It is not very loud, but when gracefully coming to a stop, say at a stop sign or red light, I get a low squeal from the rear brake. The noise appears to emanate from the passenger side.

I plan on having the dealer take a look at it while it is still under warranty.

    Anyone else having this issue?

You have brake squeak/squeal. You ever hear of it? You need some stuff to keep the disks from oscillating at audible frequencies against the metal backs of the pads. It's been an issue since the beginning of time. Like when disk brakes were invented. Before 1970. My 2014 has no issue, I live in Las Vegas. My sig is updated.

A 2014 with squeal means you drove 25k miles or more, your pads are worn or you might live in a northern climate or even Key West and you should take it to the dealer. What have been your actions before your post? I can fly to you in a heartbeat and diagnose, or you can get off your ass and at least give us info first. GIHFLT.

Since you have been here for 5 years and you haven't updated your sig and only 37 posts, I guess you only visit to vampire and not take any action before posting anything helpful.

Come on, give us something to go on. It's under warranty, do the right thing. Take it to the dealer first.......................

Less than 10K miles and still under warranty.

    Bad time of the month?

He said REAR brakes.. I sure hope my rear brake shoes arent worn after 25k.. you do know we all have drums in the back and not disk brakes right? Being kinda hard on the guy and probably confusing him all at the same time..

Pay no attention to responses like that.. theres nothing wrong with getting some info BEFORE you go to the dealer and they give you bad info lol (maybe not ALL dealers). As long as you search first feel free to ask questions. Most ppl here are VERY helpfull.. that guy needs some cranberry juice.

    Butterless Toast - thank you.

With less than 10K, I am at a loss. The root of the squeal must be pad/drum, but the mileage doesn't make sense.

The wife and kids heard it this evening and the consensus being he left rear.

It only happens at low speed as we are gracefully approaching a stop. My foot is feathering the peddle.

If you can make it do this on demand by all means take it to the dealer. When you do take the service tech for a ride ( Let the service writer know this in advance ) so you can actually show him the issue. If you do not do this they will say that they could not reproduce the problem and give it back to you. The key is to get them to acknowledge the issue in writing. They have had issues with the rear brakes squealing and I think there is a TSB for it...

The 2011-2012 TSB is exactly what is happening. Mine however is a 2014.

When coming to a stop, some 2011 – 2012 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a squeak/squeal noise from the rear brake drum at the end of the stop. Revised rear brake shoes and drums are now available to address this condition.

Just going to throw this out there ...

Is it possible that the emergency (parking) brake is not fully releasing, and wearing down the brake shoes prematurely?

My 2012 was squeaking and this fixed it. Not sure why your 2014 is causing this problem.

Someone definitely did. He should brush up on his reading comprehension skills before posting anything further.

I'll check the emergency brake. I can't remember the last time I used it though ...

My 2013's rear drums were out of round from the day I drove it off the lot. Squeaked every morning pulling out of the garage and often at stop signs. It took the dealer several appointments to finally witness it and believe me, but they ended up completely replacing both rear drums and the squeak hasn't returned since.

Mine is a faint squeal at low speed, right at the end of the stop. Not very loud, but loud enough to hear it with the windows closed.

I've had the truck for a 1.5 years and it didn't do when new.

I read that these trucks have rear drums. My 1995 80 series toyota land cruiser had disks all around way back then. Seems odd that they run drums on these...

Is there a good reason for that?

On drums, not very often. Sure, it happens, but last I looked they don't have squealers. Or discs (yes, it's discs, not disks. Since the beginning of 'time' :p)

    I'm sorry.

oh boy oh boy oh boy!

    I'd bet against it.

Is your post an example of helpful?

Hopefully whatever has caused your great distress can be relived by your proctologist soon! :D
