The machining portion wasn't me.

This was my first stab at designing on Solidworks.

I felt as if it were peering in at me...

Good point. Plus easy touch up if for some reason I scratch a whole in if I'm tired of driving with my head out of the window.

My dad had his business line set up to route an 800 number to the house. I could always call home for free from a pay phone. Now it's 76 dollars month

 

How do you know he didn't rough it out with a larger cutter and then took a finish pass on X,Y and Z effectively removing evidence of rougher? Which BTW is still not something I would have done. Larger cutters aren't always necessary faster especially if you have to come back in with another smaller cutter and clean out smaller radii features like the six areas above. If it was me I would have taken a skim cut on the fixture plate to make sure it is flat, drill and tap the holes then bolt on a piece small enough that the cutter would end up cutting off three full thickness slugs. The end mill of choice would have a smaller radius than the smallest radius on the part. Size for size will typically leave chatter marks. If you want to nitpick ask him why he bothered removing the material so far out in the first place. Have you guys found a machining consultant yet?

 

You can tell whoever did it took several passes around it with what looks like a 3/8" or 1/2" cutter. He had a picture of the finished product before, which is the circular part, so I'm not sure why the rest of the blank was milled in the first place. It looks like too much time. We have a senior machinist who is the manager, but we need a machinist lead guy to set up parts in the mills and lathes and take care of any machining things.

We do a lot of hogging out material, so for us bigger cutters have proven very efficient. Half the parts should be cast aluminum but the owner won't go for it. He changes designs too often.

 

I'm not looking, just giving a newb some shit.
