Received mine today and it is already installed. Thanks!

I remembered reading a tip about putting the outside lip of the cap over the gasket material first and then rotate the cap down and in towards the bed. That worked great. No need to pound the cap into place. With the tailgate down I leaned into the cap with my legs and tightened up all the bolts.

I'll mention I did have a bonehead moment during the install but I was able to recover. Hopefully I'm the only guy that has ever hosed this up and people reading this won't ever make the same mistake.

When I applied the gasket strip that goes on the outside of the tailgate under the outer lip of the cap, I didn't place the gasket high enough. It was very bright out with lots of glare off the white tailgate -I swear I placed it about the same place shown in the install pics. You really need to get that gasket close to the very top edge of the tailgate where it begins to curve or you will see some of the gasket peeking out from under the cap lip. I carefully pulled off the gasket, cleaned the tailgate off again with denatured alcohol and then applied two strips of 30 mil 3M Scotch 06376 Automotive Attachment Tape right next to each other along the rear of the tailgate at the very top edge. I reapplied the gasket material to this double wide strip of 3M tape and finished the install. Thank goodness I had the tape on hand. It is what I used to remount my WeatherTech in-channel wind deflectors after the OEM tape dried up and failed after years of SoCal sun.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Hey Chad. Can we do a pick up from your shop ? I can see myself going for a drive in next couple weeks. Also I don't need the torx bit but will need the gasket.

    Thanks.

I don't see why not, but it would only cost a few dollars to ship to you, and I'm never home on weekends.
