The 2.7L Single Cab Thread

My dad has always been fairly supportive of the truck and the money I dump into it. Granted, at 24, he shouldn't be giving me finance classes but he occasionally hints at a savings account.

He had an old jeep back when he was young. Did the modding thing and decided it wasn't for him. He understands the bug though . My uncle had a bunch of sweet rigs too. Maybe ill get bored after BabyT and just enjoy a stock vehicle.

 

My dad had some sweet trucks when he was a kid, Im pretty sure he had a 79 F-250 with like a 8 inch lift. He thinks I'm wasting my money in this truck cause it's only a 4 cyl reg cab. Also he works with guys with trucks like mine and they tell him all the down falls of lifts , cv axles busting, vibrations, etc.. But I've studied enough on here I think to know to take precautions.

 

Alright guys quick issue, I've changed my oil numerous times and now my oil filter is stuck for some reason. Any ideas?

 

I've wrapped my leather belt around it to use as a wrench. The belt lays over itself in a few layers and thats how it locks on. Pull on the belt with strong arm and turn filter with the other. Last resort is to shove a screw driver through it and turn that way. You could potention tear it apart, the filter, and be stuck with half a filter on your engine. That would suck.

I don't change my own oil anymore so i don't kow what kind of room yo have to work with.

 

My dad is a dodge guy and has to have more power than needed so I feel ya on that! After I got my truck my mom was in love with it. It was "so cute and the perfect size" . Well my dad did get her a reg cab but had to have a dodge with a v8 and all the fancy options . Nice truck but every time I go home he is more and more impressed with what I make that lil 4banger do. It's always a good feeling when he gets stuck in the driveway . Or when he asks how much money I have dumped into the truck and it's still less than what his cost.

Just don't lift it above 3 inches and the CV's will be fine. Also have to be mindful of how hard you are romping on the truck in 4wd, especially when you are turning. I always take things slow and as straight as possible and have yet to break a cv. I think a lot of it has to do with the power output difference from the 4banger and v6. All my v6 buds have had to replace a cv with just 33's and light wheeling . I don't think Kase has even broke a CV and he straight up abuses his truck.

 

Have you tried getting a socket that fits it? I had one stuck and just gave up and took it to a place to change it out. I just got under the truck right away and made sure the filter was not too tight.

 

There is zero room, and where I live in WV toyota had a recall to rubber coat the frame to keep it from rusting and they sprayed it over everything. So that makes everything a bitch to work with as well.

 

I have a wrench but the thing is so tight it just spins the wrench round and round and the filter never budges. Never buying a FRAM filter again

 

No idea why it is stuck, did you lube the filter gasket with oil before screwing it on?

As to getting it off, stab it with a screwdriver and start it off that way, going to throw it away anyway.

 

Yeah I lubed it up before I put it on, I'm not sure if colder weather has anything to do with it getting stuck.

 

Why didn't I think of channel locks

 

How cold? Got a heat gun?

 

It's been about -10° to 20° all week , I don't have a heat gun but I have a MAP gas torch. I sprayed some PB blaster on it and let it set I think I'm gonna try to beat a oil filter wrench on there really tight and give er hell

 

Also make sure you're lubing the new filter with clean oil when you put it back on.

Channel locks are a no go, PB blaster didn't work, oil filter wrench doesn't work, I think this thing just really loves my truck and doesn't want to leave it.

 

You should do the BHLM or get some retros though.

 

I couldn't get them to fit in the space to use them

 

Is it safe or run OME coils with 5100s?
