What's the best running board / bar to get when you have a short wife?

I just got a 2015 DCSB Sport. Love the truck ... but, my very short wife is having a hard time getting in and out. I'd trade in the wife, but I kind of like her. So, the alternative is to get a running board I guess.

I really like the look of the NFAB Nerf Step bar (model

$550 T0580CC-TX | Fits 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 5' Short Bed, SRW Gas

T0580CC-TX). but I can't tell if that little step is really going to make much of a difference.

Anyone have experience with a very short significant other and step bars? Any recommendations?

The best are the AMP Research power boards. Expensive, but they make it so much easier for people to get in the cab. Although that may not be the look or price range you want either.

 

Custom rock sliders with a filler plate so that it acts as a rock slider for armor and a step for short wives.

 

I'm not a fan of the "bars"... I have and really love the flat OEM running boards. The plastic on them match the bed rail covers and stop all gravel and shit from destroying yer paint...


Had mine since '06... still look like new.... NO rust streaks, etc I see on other steel "bars"....

X2 on this. If you don't need sliders, the OEM flat boards are really nice looking.

 

I have OEM running boards. They probably won't be low enough for you.

 

N-Fab bar is great for my 5'3.5" wife, but the finish flashing off and subsequent rust make me a little hesitant to recommend them.

I have Go Rhino Dominator II stainless steel step bars and they work great for my 3yr old son to climb up in and my 5'2" tall wife.

 

You've already got enough advice... so I'm just going to add an interesting story.

My wife is also short. When I got my truck she looks at me and says; "You need to buy a step bar for me".

BRILLIANT!! I wanted to buy step bars... now she thinks they're for her!

 

I put on the 4" Raptors and like them so far. So does the wife...

 

Short and squaty all ass and no body.

 

A real man would get on his hands and knees and let her step on his back. Chivalry is dead.

The above two are definitely the cheapest of my options --- but, sadly, I don't think that's going to cut it for me.

This fits right along with my situation. I was wanting to get something anyhow. Now I've got the perfect reason to spend the money without having to explain myself.

Those looks like they would work, but I'm a bit against something mechanical like that. It's just one more thing to break. That's what I love about the Tacoma. It's relatively simple and without all of those little mechanical extras that will break over time.

Seems like a lot of people are recommending the OEM boards. That's actually something I didn't even look into at first, but I am definitely going to take a look at them now.

Oh really? ... I wasn't aware that they had quality issues. Do you have the glossy ones, or the textures ones? I was thinking about getting the textured ones figuring they would hold up better.

Now those are some nice looking bars ---- that's definitely the look I am going for.

The couple of guys that I have weld stuff for me are so damn busy with projects that I don't think I'd see the bars/steps for about a half year. But, this is a great idea.
