I love Utah. Lots of places to live depending on what you want and where you are working.

I grew up on the Wasatch back (Kamas, Heber City, Park City) and love those areas. Kamas is a little too small (education is a little lacking in opportunites). Park City is growing fast. Definitely a different crowd there than other places. I don't like it as much. Heber City/Midway is where my parents live now. I really like it. Good education system and opportunities but still a small town feel in a beautiful area.

I went to school in Logan and loved living in the Cache Valley. Honestly I would live there now if there was more work available. It doesn't work to commute many places from there and the winters can be dismal. Summer time though is great and the college town atmosphere is fun. Lots of recreation there.

I live now along the Wasatch Front in Draper. It is really nice but sometimes I miss the rural feel of other places. I have family that live in Farmington and Centerville and those areas are nice as well. Opportunities and constraints along the Wasatch Front (Ogden to Spanish Fork) are pretty similar. You are closer to work, closer to ammenities, but you are also closer to people, traffic can suck, and air quality in the winter is terrible.

Nope, Utah sucks, you'll hate it here, and I'm not sharing. :D

Like zscott says if you like the outdoors its a great place. Save a few major league ball teams I can't think of much you can't do here. I grew up here and for years it was my goal to move away. Then I got to travel (a lot) and every where I went I'd compare to Utah. By every measure IMO Utah is as good or better than every where I went. Its not perfect, the winter air is horrible and rush hour traffic can be a headache. If you want to drive to any big city be prepared to spent hours and hours driving. But, SLC is a Delta hub which making flying less of a hassle.

I live right in the middle of the Salt Lake valley and in 30 minutes east or west I can be in the mountains or desert. In an hour I can be far away from the city, pretty much all by myself.

So, yeah I like it here, I'm just afraid once the word gets out so will everyone else.

Trail gear bolt-on sliders. BLHM, AUX relayed fuse block, Plastiderp, Diff breather mod, Paracord handles, Trex eyelids, Spacer lift (for now), Magnaflow offroad series cat-back exhaust. sound system, limo tint on all windows excluding windshield. all pro rear bumper with side plates
well provo is one of the top cities for job opportunities and such according to the news, but im not a fan of all the congestion in northern utah. but i do love southern utah. tons of lakes to go boating and you can go from about April to around October. and theres plenty of BLM trails. and places for motorcycles and atvs.

What's the area of Tooele like? A friend suggested I try that area. And yes, haha, I am geared towards the outdoors!

Tooele is a bedroom community for SLC. Housing is a little more affordable and you are that much closer to the desert. (and that much further from the ski resorts) I guess it depends on what you do for work and how much you do or don't like commuting vs how close you want to be to the desert. I'd live there for the desert part, but I'm a baby when it comes to commute driving. Living 15 minutes from the office seems like a long drive to me.

The tooele valley in all can be very windy, every other day people are looking for their yard furniture.
Also the Army Depot would be up-wind. THere they dispose of chemical weapons. Located between two mountain ranges,
East is Kennecott - worlds largest open pit mine, west the Indian reservation where Energy Solutions tried to store Nuclear waste.

But the Valley itself can be fun to explore in the taco or on a motorcycle.

I don't mind the commute - I plan on working at home :D And right now my commute is 0.7 miles from my house to the Verizon store (I'm A.M.)

I like wind! But in relation to the chem. weapon disposal being upwind...I guess I'll be looking into a different area

I can hear your traffic report, "Let's go to Duane in the plane. Well, Bob it seems there's a slow down in the hallway where someone has left a laundry basket. And there it a big tie up in the bathroom. Other than that it is an easy commute from the bedroom to the home office." If I could figure out how to make a living working from home, I'd do it in a heart beat.

I moved here from central Ohio. Best thing I've ever done. For me, it was a toss up between Salt Lake City, UT and the Denver, CO area. Hands down I made the right decision. Everything about this place is amazing (except the inversion during the winter and the bullshit alcohol laws). The mo's used to get on my very last nerve as well but you learn to just ignore them after awhile and they are usually very nice albeit overly judgmental people. Nightlife is decent, not like east coast but there are a few bars that are good and downtown has a lot of pretty good spots. One of the biggest things I had to get used to was they do not have happy hour here, again thanks to the mo's but it seems to be improving one step at a time. Overall, I love it here and don't know where else I would live at this point. IF you are trying to live in SLC I highly recommend trying to stay as close to the east bench/Wasatch mountains as possible. I first lived in West Jordan when I moved out and it was okay and rent was cheap, but now I live in Cottonwood Heights and this area is the shit. I'm minutes from mountain biking/hiking during the summer and world class ski resorts in the winter. I would recommend coming for a visit if you've never been here first to check it out. I got a job offer here before I moved so I flew out for three days to check it out and fell in love the minute I landed. If you ever come to visit hit me up and I'll show you around.

Sadly I think the word is already out. The west side is exploding just in the couple of years that I've been here...

LOL! From your description Tooele sounds like an area in the game "Fall Out". Accurate yes, appealing to an out of state visitor....not so much.

If you like the small town atmosphere, Emery and Carbon County aren't bad. 15 minutes one way is the San Rafael Swell, 15 minutes the other way is mountains. 2 hours from Moab, 2 hours from Salt Lake, all the hiking you'd want to do, fishing, endless camping spots, the coyote hunting isn't bad, and there is all kinds of 4 wheeling to do. Jobs are a bit hard to find though. I love it here, but I'm kind of partial to it since I grew up here.
