Short trips throughout the day

    I am currently at community college (5min from my house:() and i work as a carpenter(In town:D). I usually start and stop my truck alot throughout the day and only travel a couple of miles each time. I always let it warm up but i'm sure that these short trips aren't great for the truck. I wanted to know if there is any preventative maintenance that would help out and what parts might need to be replaced sooner than normal? Thanks in advance guys.

    Follow the "severe usage" schedule in the owners manual. Same basic maintenance, but shortened time intervals.

    Letting it warm up is a very good thing, prevents moisture from building up in the crankcase, moisture from rotting your exhaust from the inside out. Also (I'm guessing here) probably prevents the ECU from learning all kinds of bad habits.

    Anyone here know of a linky to a 2nd gen manual?

    J_cyrus the 1st gen manual is available on-line, but I'm on my laptop and it's bookmarked on a machine packed for the move.

    Honestly? I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you're maintaining your truck regularly....it shouldn't let you down.

    What's the difference between having multiple short trips versus letting it sit in the garage too long undriven? Or the difference between driving it everyday for hours on end? Versus stop & go? Versus highway? Versus offroad? ...you get the point.

    If Toyota can't build a vehicle that stands up to all types of driving - then these trucks aren't the reliable things we all bought them for.

    My truck sees 9 miles to & from work (18 round trip)
    My husbands Acura MDX sees 5 miles to & from work (10 round trip)

    Nothing to worry about. Your fine. When you here people say, "It's good, It's all highway miles." All that means is the miles on the vehicle are cruising straight. Not constantly stop and go, shifting, and all turns with typical around town/city driving. City verses highway: City driving, eats brakes quicker, and shocks/springs, and more work on the tranny. Short rides don't do any more damage, so your cool. Just do like you are. Cold starts, let it warm up before you go. Not sure about yours, but cold starts on my truck, the engine idle RPM's are a little higher. When she idles down, your good to go...;) Wear, and tear is "how and where" you drive, not how "long or short" your trips are.

Skyjacker AAL's and replacement leafs(and front spacers) from Fatbobsgarage.com. Skyjacker 7000 Hydro rear shocks, those Bilstein 5100 fronts are coming soon!
    Do what I do. I treat my taco as if it is all severe driving. I change my oil every 2000 miles, I am using Valvoline high mileage synthetic blend. Florida weather as you know is hot as hell, so I change it a lot. Hey, you can never "overchange" your oil. Or trans fluid, etc.
