I had mine there with double sided tape but once it got hot in the cab it would fall off. Now it lives in the cup holder.

Surface prep is everything, same tape that holds on hood and window vent visors. Whatever works for you. Won't last forever but should last for years with good prep.

This spot worked out pretty good for me. I used an old thin piece of metal and drilled a small hole on one side and used some of that steel putty stuff and stuck it to the spot behind the temp gauge. I'll try and get some pics of how I did it tomorrow while at work.

Since I don't have a pic right now, mines right above the air vent on the right side of the gauge cluster.

Found a bracket that came with an old cheap HID kit. Just bent it to shape and roughed up the paint with sandpaper. Mixed up a small amount of steel weld putty and let it dry. I had to bore the small hole out enough to fit the small screw through. But worked out great! No movement or vibes.

Does the UG read both trany temp sensors? If not, which one does it read? Can one select which sensor to read?

Not sure which sensor it reads but you can only choose one choice. In both C* and F*

Does the UltraGauge read manual trans temp? Or is it just for ATF?

    Stock for now...
    It only reads automatics .
On a side note - noticing my engine temp never goes over about 180* , thought the thermostat was rated higher than that ?
Wondering about the thermostat or gasket , maybe it's bypassing ?

I see the same thing. Does your temp gauge on the cluster actually exceed ~180° or does it just have the ability to read above that?

The stock cluster has no numbers , just a scale . Normal running it sits in the middle , which shows around 175* most of the time , pretty cold for a modern efi engine . Trans hasn't shown above 130* yet despite Interstate and city running .
    I'm leaning towards a new thermostat ....

I don't know for a fact, but the temps for my 2015 Tacoma 4.0L runs 180ish, same as my 2011 Camry 3.5L and the same as my 2009 Corolla - perhaps those are the design parameters??? (as measured by my ultra-gauges) Trans temp on the Tacoma runs 130ish - but outside temps have been cold here. Not sure I would be changing a thermostat unless the temps deviated significantly more than 20-25% of the Toyota design parameter. JMO

My 2009 6sp usually reads 190-192 fully warmed up in ambient 40* winter day per my ScanGauge. Has been consistent over the last 5 years.
