I found a 2001 ext cab with 275000 miles drove it and drives real nice not to beat up. its the 5peed 4x4. I got them down to 3700 because it needs some sensors replaced. it doesn't have any fancy frills. manual windows no cruise now sliding window. is there anything i should look for or be concerned about? its an Arizona truck so it has minimal rust.

    good deal or not?

you can expect 300k miles from the engine.

no telling how many it will actually go, heck some make it 400k and in rare cases 500k miles, but I would say your buying a truck with an engine on its last leg. the "so called" sensors it needs may be fine and just saying the engine is on its way out.

im not saying don't buy it, im just saying if you do buy it expect to have to replace or rebuild the engine in it more sooner then later and by that I mean in the next 25k miles

I wouldn't pay more then $2500 because of the high mileage and IMHO it needs a $1000-$1500 engine rebuild and then its still only a $5000 truck after that.

ps - if its from a dealer I can guarantee your getting screwed and it needs a whole lot more then sensors. dealers want the most money then can so if it needs a sensor they change it, if the problem is something else that costs big money they tell some sucker "well it just needs a few sensors so well reduce the price" and once you leave with it your stuck with a boat load of trouble and big $$$ repair bills.

so I bought it. got her down a little more because she decided to leave when I was on my way. I just doing a few maintenance things like t-belt/water pump and the one oxygen sensor however, i'm gonna change both just because if one went out the other may not be far behind. I cleaned all the grime off the motor and undercarriage. pretty clean for the mileage. it rides and drivers better than my 2002 gmc sierra with 173k miles so. here's to at least a few years of driving and four wheeling. I figure ill keep it until it blows up then upgrade to a double cab. the prerunners are allot more common and cheaper so at least ill have a doner truck to make 4x4 if I cant find a decent priced double cab 4x4. then I can make it a manual double cab. =]

    glad to hear.

these trucks can go through hell and back and still be rock solid but the one thing that can kill them (outside of the frame rust issues up north) is lack of maint, so if the oil doesn't get changed sometimes it can do your engine in, yet I know one guy never changed oil in his life and drove his yota for 200k miles with it just barely smoking so Toyota engines are pretty damn tough.

if she took care of it and didn't abuse it, then you shouild be fine and you could even see another 10 years of use out of it. even if you need to replace the engine in the next 2-3 years its well worth dropping in another engine.

just remember, its a small truck and doesn't have a lot of power so drive it with that in mind and it may be the last truck you ever need to buy.

4banger or v6? I bought my 00 4x4 v6 with 205k for a couple grand more than that in amazing condition. I'm going to put a new engine in when/ if this one goes, everything else is near perfect so its worth it. Gotta love AZ trucks! Theres not a spot of rust anywhere

OP if the engine has been taken care of and not beaten to death I would ignore the comment about replacing the engine at 300k. There is one in my yard right now with 395xxx miles on it. Only ever replaced normal wear items (spark plugs, belts, water pump, etc.) and put an alternator on it. Automatic transmission. Driven around 100 miles plus every day. Still runs perfect. If you look in my gallery you will see pictures of the valve covers off at about 360k. Engine was very clean. Oil always changed at 5k.

yeah, if I get two even three years out of it ill be happy. oil looks to be recently changed and stuff but that could be due to her wanting to sale it. I don't see any oil leaks on it. I just changed out the 02 sensors so I could emission it. hopefully not the cats. the sensors still said toyota on them so I wouldn't be surprised if they were the original. if its the cats ill just get a nice after market exhaust. I think I seen them for 300 on amazon for the cat section. thank gott for Amazons low prices. I need to do a spark plug change and probably do the t-belt this weekend. runs great for now.. haha she said her mom always took care of all the maintenance on it. and she wasn't sure but she thought her mom had put a new engine in it at some point. all I know is some tiny ass lady drove it because it had 2 inch blocks on all three pedals. haha i had to laugh about that. the only body damage is on the left side she said she hit some kind of animal so it needs a fender so nothing major there. she had bought the truck with 160k on it 6 years ago so how it runs and drives i cant tell that she didn't do the maintenance on it. only time will tell.
