Patrick, where did you get your brake lines? My extended lines aren't going to cut it anymore.

 

I had the shop order some when he did the swap. They were some braided lines. I believe 24"

 

hey man i've got a couple questions about the 63 swap.

looks like you used the ruff stuff frenchie front shackle hanger, but it doesn't look like its actually frenched into the frame. looks like its just welded to the frame (with out cutting out a piece of the frame and welding the hanger in its place)

and it looks like you accomplished something similar to the ato shackle flip in the rear. so i'm guessing i'd be fine with my shackle flip, just need to adjust to the proper shackle angle.

do you have any idea how much weight you've had in the bed and how it handled it?

 

So the ruff stuff kit on the 05+ is pretty much frenched with the frame without cutting into it. As far as the ATO flip kit goes, I am not sure how that would interface with a pair of 63's. I am pretty sure the rear mount with the shackle flip kit will have to go though. As far as weight goes I have a shell that weighs around 180# plus all my daily work tools around 400#. It holds the weight well and o have 4.5" of compression left before it bottoms out. Hope that helps out.

Love your build man. I've been researching the 63 swap. So it looks like it's almost cheaper than buying a new leaf set like Dakars and expos... Plus you get way more droop!

That's about it. You will also need a rear perch made up. The springs on that add look like it is 2 leafs and the overload. Some have more. It depends on how light you like them.

Ah I see. Cool! So basically it's impossible to do this without flipping your shackle?

 

Correct. These leafs are designed to be run with a conventional shackle, our yotas are the inverted ones.

The first gens don't need the rear perch since their frames don't taper like ours. That's why the 63 kits you find don't have the perch.

When you're ready to do your swap send me a PM. I can cut out the rear perch pieces for you.

Ive had all the Ruff Stuff parts to swap mine for about a year now and cant convince myself to do it! I got them on the discount rack since they are here local and I think I spent about $50. I actually posted it for sale on Sacramento CL. Im just woriied it'll come out too tall, if you leave the oberload spring in order to use it for heavy loads you probably gain a lot of lift! No??

I got some prety nice brackets for the rear (shackle side) Ruff Stuff can build them custom to your spec

Edit: but regular price are not cheep! I got them on clearance, they were built to the wrong spec for someone so I had to cut them down a little

 

Thats a nice install! Whats with the anti wrap bar? Do you think its needed?

 

Let's put it this way. I wheeled without it this past weekend.







My leafs wrapped hard enough to put the driveshaft at such an angle that the rear flange broke and twisted my new leafs into pretzels.

 

So did it do ok, is there a reason you did? A little insurance?? What tires are you running? Are you running a 3 pack (including the overload) chevy 63"?

Before the problem... did you habe a good angle on your driveline? Patrick I domt think is running anti wrap bar.. I wonder why that happened

 

I'm running skyjacker 5" lift springs, without the overload. It's my own fault that shit broke. I wasn't running bumps or the trac bar. Both of my temporary rear shocks blew as well.

It was an expensive weekend.
