No, it merely implies that a full size truck is a lot better at doing "truck things" than a Tacoma.

    Which it is.

Even if we all ran out and bought some mythical 2017 diesel, not enough sales to do anything but enrage shareholders for an expensive niche product.
For the foreseeable future, Hilux/Diesel is the rest of the world.
    We have Tacoma/Gas.

There's been a few grain harvester fire attributed to the urea/reburn system.
Harvester fire looks almost like a "Burning Man" art project.

My company is at the point that we aren't buying any new diesel pickups. We get big gas engine trucks. They don't throw a check engine light multiple times a year or get put into limp mode.

Unfortunately our big trucks and equipment can't do that though. We have an 09 F750 with a Cummins, and that thing is a maintenance hog compared to our 95 International DT466.

I'm very skeptical of the new Titan and Colorado diesels. Time will tell, but I think they will be a disappointment for many owners.

That's like saying a dump truck is better at " truck things " than a full size pickup

Buying a Tacoma expecting it to be able to do stuff a full size truck can do is a mistake , but a Tacoma is certainly capable of " truck things " lol

I've had no issues with my bed :notsure: Then again, I didn't buy a Tacoma hoping it could do the work of a F-250. Then again, is a F-250 not a truck because it can't do the work of a F-650?

I don't understand black and white statements like this. I use my Tacoma as a truck all the time. Carrying and hauling construction materials. I have no use for a full size truck for the things I use it for, and guess what, I use it as a truck. Different uses for different machines.

    That's like saying a D8 caterpillar isn't a construction vehicle because a D11 moves more dirt.

and it wouldnt stick out at all on a flatbed semi-trailer. comparison makes about as much sense when you're comparing outside of the particular segment.

got a midsized truck w/ an 8' bed? that'd be a legit comparison.

Off-roadable El Camino with Toyota reliability, pretty much what I bought the truck for.

I used my truck bed a total of 7 times in the last five years, and 4 of those times were for hauling parts or tools for the truck. If the FJ were priced at or below the Tacoma's level, I would've probably gotten that instead.

I was really bummed when Pontiac went away. That was most likely our only shot of getting the Maloo RSV here in the states.

i looked at an FJ when i was trading in my 07 taco. would have needed a trailer and that wouldnt have been an option. wouldnt mind having an FJ as a secondary vehicle though for just wheeling, while still having a truck.

Might as well have bought a Prius cause I can't haul as much as a tractor trailer

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Can't say "Amen!" enough to this, and this is precisely why I have a 1997 7.3l Powerstroke diesel! Sure it's not as fancy or up to date as a new diesel truck with leather heated seats, it's not quiet, it rides rough, shakes, rattles and smells like an old diesel; but I can count on it to fire up every single time I let those glow plugs cycle and crank her up. I even put this engine higher than my 3.4 in my Tacoma reliability wise. They don't make engines like the 7.3 or 12 valve Cummins anymore and I am confident my diesel would take me to a million miles if I drove it enough, but it only has 180k on it currently and I only drive it when I need to haul or tow something heavy so it will probably never get there in my lifetime. Another thing I absolutely love about it is the handshaker 5 speed manual, can't get them in newer diesels anymore I don't think. I know Ford stopped offering a stickshift diesel when the 6.7 Powerstroke came out.

I like the 7.3 and 6BT a lot. Both great engines when paired with a manual gearbox. The autos both came with however left a lot to be desired.

One day I'm gonna build a 6BT powered rat rod.
