    Hello everyone.
I'm new to the forum, wanted to say hello and ask a somewhat quick question. I have a 2013 Tacoma 4dr. I have recently been looking at bed racks to use for a rooftop tent. I currently have a tent made for the bed of the truck, however I would like to be able to utilize the bed more when I'm camping. Which brings me to the rack with a tent on top of it. I was just wondering if putting such a rack over the bed with a tent has any negative effects on the bed over time? Any spreading issues or anything else?

    Thanks!

Not sure how you plan to attach things or where the weight would be, but our beds are plastic and not made for much of that.

Search forum member kbvoodoo, he has some bed racks that can handle RTT that I have been looking at. I am interested to hear why this guy^^ thinks what he does. I do not have either bed rack or RTT but I am looking into them. Seen tons of photos with guys running them in their bed...

I've seen them bolted into the side rails and take up about 4/5 of the bed an go anywhere from window to cab height, assuming the tent distributes it's weight fairly evenly on the bed, my concern is the long term wear and tear it might create.
    Thanks for the reply!
I've been seeing a lot of photos of them as well, I will look up kbvoodoo, Thank you!

These are the ones that I make, but I think the OP wants something that elevates the RTT so he has more room underneath it.

These are mounted to the bed bolts. Room below for gear and coolers. Also allows me to keep the Bestop over it.

Look at the all pro pack rack. The rails that sit on the bedrails are almost as wide as the bed rails themselves so weight is evenly distributed. I've had mine on for a year with a tepui gran sabana with no ill effects. Been on plenty of wheeling trips and camping trips in that time too.

Thanks for the reply! My concern with those is I would like the RTT to live on the truck and with something that low it seems like I would lose my rear view mirror.
That was my concern with doing a rack on the bedsides. I had seen a bunch online but never really saw any long term affects on what it does to the bed. Thanks for the reply!
I like that setup and the tent! Did you build that yourself?
I have been looking at the allpro, as well as pelfreybilt racks, It looks like those are what most people run their RTT's with.

    Thanks for all the reply's!

I had a local fab guy make the bends I wanted. He tacked it up and I welded it together. You can't see but there is two bars connecting the front to the back

I took my rack and tent off a few weeks ago to save weight but here are a couple from other people's rigs. There's a short version and a larger version that's 4" taller

I went with the Relentless bars as well. With the tall option, I can place coolers, my dog kennel, and I can crawl my fat ass under it to get to my tool box, if need be.

Hey RacecarGuy, does your tent feel secure with just 2 bars? I'm debating whether or not I need the 3rd bar... there's only going to be 2 bodies in the tent max.
