I see that you lack reading comprehension skills. ;) This is what I wrote.

The 4x4 should ONLY be engaged for off road or if you are stuck in snow. You can damage the 4x4 system otherwise. Never use it just to drive with even in snow. If other two wheel drive vehicles are running with no problem then there is no need to engage 4x4.

I think he's saying that the 4X4 system wont be damaged if you travel in a straight line on dry pavement. The whole "never" thing doesnt really hold water.

What??? Why did you buy 4WD then??

I use my 4WD all the time when it snows. I even use it in the summer when it rains on the highway just to keep the system functioning and lubricated - it's a maintenance requirement. Hasn't failed me yet..... after 8 years.

Likely to damage the system?? Give the system more credit than that. You don't have to 'baby it'. If you bought 4WD...use it. The system works just fine as long as you understand it. What not to do, how to recognize the binding, and not abusing it.

    Generally, I'd agree.

In these cases, it's up onto the side of the road with packed snow a few inches higher than the road. So while the road is just coated with snow, I can't back up while turning onto this in 2WD.

This explains why my truck kept exploding on me on all those snowboarding trips over Donner Summit.

    Thanks for the great advice.

So what he is saying is I shouldnt have driven 600 miles in 4wd, even though it was a North Dakota/Montana blizzard which consists of "just snow"?

So that's where the Launch Mode button is! I've been looking for it for some time now.

They labeled it wrong in the manual. The "button"verbage throws you off. They should have said switch and you would have probably found it just fine.

OP, you're fine to use it. Just dont turn sharp while engaged.

There are more qualified individuals in here that actually know what they are talking about and we use the hell out of our 4wd on hard surfaces, if it starts to jerk a bit your at your limit and back off. If you have to make a 3 point turn to get into a parking spot, so be it.

It's not a crystal wine glass.

This is when I found the limit of my 93. Parked in the morning at the lodge after a very snowy slick drive up. When I was done in the afternoon, the snow had melted on the asphalt. I went to pull of of my spot and halfway out DERP! WTF, bound up. Looked down, realized I had not disengaged 4X4 when I parked.

Conditions changed. When I parked, very little traction. When I left, lots of traction...

Thanks for the info guys, I thought this might be the case but wanted to check.

It is quite a bit different than my awd but hasn't been a problem so far. I don't think I fully understand why sometimes it switches from 4WD to 2 very quickly, and sometimes the light flashes for what seems like a long time. It seems like when turning it won't switch from one to the other. When going straight or at a stop it seems to switch more quickly.

I probably just need to get out in a field or iced over parking lot and switch modes to learn more.
