Frame came in this morning, my tech started working on taking things apart over the weekend. Should be done by the end of the week. Total wait time: ~5wks

I'm wondering the same. Seems like this applies only to the east coast. I recently purchased a 06 DCSB from Spokane (carfax says origin of entry was oregon) and I know they are a bit more liberal with their de-icing methods on that side of the state. My frame is rusty, but haven't gotten under it and inspected it closer for bubbling or flaking. As soon as it gets out of the tranny shop I'll be definitely checking the trouble spots people have been reporting.

I'm about 2 months into a 3-4 month wait for them getting frame. I have a loaner. I would like to put a toytec 3" lift on truck when they put in the new frame. I plan on checking with the GM to see if that would void me having any recourse on the work that was done in the future. Wondering if anyone has done something similar?

I just had my 08 Tacoma in for this recall Thursday 2/27/2015. Team Toyota (dealer) said my frame was not bad and only needs coted. I took the truck home after coting and next morn as I pulled out of garage the coting had dripped all over garage floor. I took truck back and told them to remove coting or somehow bake it on, they are currently holding the truck inside body shop for a few days. If it still won't gel they said they would put truck in paint shop and bake it to 140*.
Question... Why are they doing this in sub freezing climates at this time of year ??

I would not let that dealer order your frame. Get your truck back and look for some other dealers to quote you if possible. Is it really undriveable? Get proof or pictures. Post them up here cause I haven't seen many of these so unsafe that they cannot be driven. I guess its possible.

I went to a second dealer and they let me drive my truck until the frame arrived. Can't really work in a Corolla. I understand my frame has arrived but now just waiting on a harness. I asked them about the Toytec 3" lift and rear springs again and have not heard back yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that they keep their word on a no cost replacement deal for me.

I'm here in Washington (Portland, Oregon) area. My 08 has nothing but minor surface rust in small areas.

It depends on if your state uses salt or sand.. obviously the salt states are gonna have worse frames than sand states. I am in MN, and we use salt, and the dealership has my truck now and everyone there is saying they've done a ton of these.

Just got mine back. The kid did an amazing job. I purchased new shocks, struts, brakes, water pump, rear bumper and got the diff and transfer case flushed. I was shocked that there were no squeaks, creaks or rattles but instead, it is tight. The ride is amazing with the new suspension.

If the engine and transmission last, this truck will carry me to the cemetery.....

This was a day after my dad brought this home from Ohio from a Used Car Lot, I got nervous when i saw some rust so I convinced him to take the bed off with me. It was a nightmare under there. Replaced break lines, BPV Valve. Then I boxed in the rear frame and welded fresh steel inside and coated wit POr15. I think its strong now, but my best guess is it would have qualified.

Although my harness is on backorder (with no time frame yet) the dealer offered to salvage and use the original one. I refused and told them I would wait for all new parts.

They did offer to replace my rear leafs at no cost.
I am skeptical but have hi hopes that they will not charge me to work on the truck with a lift. I'm eager to see the results as I plan on doing a tune up, brakes and the works.

Blackout, Appreciate the offer of help. My truck (2007, TRD) was inspected in December at Conicelli and will need a replacement. A question I have for you, if you work at a dealer is there any other work you would recommend having done at this time? For example, my truck has 85K miles and I am thinking about replacing/upgrading the shocks. Conicelli also said it looked like the steering box had a small leak, so maybe this is a good time to address that too. Thanks for the help.

Was this Team Toyota in Langhorne? How much rust was on your frame?

My truck just went in this morning for the replacement. I have a 2006 Access Cab 4WD with 176k miles. Everything on my truck is original with the exception of fluids, plugs, front brakes, and belt. Along with all the items they are replacing I handed them a box containing the following:

    1. Bilstein 5100 x4 with OME coils installed on fronts
    2. New upper and lower ball joints
    3. New inner and outer tie rod ends
    4. Upper control arm bushings (lowers are replaced with the LCA's during swap)
    5. New front wheel bearing hub assemblies and inner seals
    6. Water pump and gasket
    7. Serpentine belt
    8. U-joints

These items were not in need of immediate attention with the exception of one lower ball joint that was starting to make noise, but I figured all components have a lot of miles on them so I might as well change them out now while it's free or reduced labor.

I'm also having them repair a leaky passenger side valve cover gasket and do the transmission fluid change.

Some people may disagree with changing out parts prior to indication of wear, but it was just a matter of time.

I see a lot of people go with Bilstein 5100's. Is that an upgrade from stock or is it for trucks that have a lift kit? My suspension is stock on a Double Cab TRD, however I'd welcome suggestions for the right shock. The truck is used primarily on the highway.

From the research I've done, they should provide an improved ride over the stock Bilsteins. Also, a small amount of lift can be provided on the front by moving the retaining clip up on the shock body in three increments (.85", 1.25" and 2.5") while using the stock coil spring. I decided to gain 1.5" of lift using the OME coil spring and keep the shock at stock height.

I would not install the shocks at stock height with a 1.5" lift coil.
Move the clip to 1.25" lift on your shock and you should be ok.
