Just curious what everyone has been using for 9mm and 45 self defense ammo.

Going to pick up some FGMM from sgammo and figured id pick up some more 9 and 45 ammo at the same time.


Cant remember off the top of my head what i have been using. But i think its 115gr Gold Dots in 9 and 230 critical duty in 45

Same for when I'm in densely populated areas.

9mm:
Speer Gold Dot 147gr
Remington Golden Saber 124gr +P

.45 ACP:
Winchester PDX1 230gr
Remington Golden Saber 185gr +P

Honestly though, make sure whatever you decide to use you test in your firearm first. You don't want an ammo in there that the pistol is picky about. A good recent example is the Glock 42 not playing nice with Buffalo Bore HP .380

 

Just got myself a ruger single six last night, serial puts dated of manufacture at 1973. Hope to shoot it on Sunday

 

O no worries I test all ammo. Thankfully my sig 226 and XDs 45 have shot everything ive tried. I put a minimum 100 rounds through the gun before I carry with it. Plus testing each mag I carry with the ammo as well.

 

for 9mm,

Fed HST or Speer Gold Dot in either 147 gr or 124 +p

 

Generally always 230 grain Hydrashocks in my .45 mags.

 

What happened to the Ranger SXT ammo? I cant find that anywhere. This is my go to carry ammo and I am running low.

It's a pre warning gun, so it has nothing about "warning: read owners manual" stuff

And being a '73 the .22 lr and the .22 mag cylinders are both fluted like the one in picture

 

I may own 10 Zeiss scopes from .22 to high powered rifles, fantastic glass and will continue to buy them over any mfg. They have been in the desert shooting coyotes, rock chucks to the hills elk hunting and I have never had an issue.

 

My beef with them is that I can't afford them. . What model are you looking at?

 

So I had dinner with friends last night and a buddy was talking about how he wanted an EOTech. I happened to have one and I love it, but I started thinking about how the Micro T2 is a cool concept. Next thing you know, he has the EOTech and I picked up a T2 today. Saved 4oz and sits nice on the house gun. Love the concept of an always-on red dot.

 

Nice. I did the same with a couple sbr's, figured I could spring for a new battery every 3 years.

Shot a PX sub and didn't care for it. I would like to try the Nano.
