Thoughts on wheel spacers?

Hey guys, I'm running 295/75/16s with 16x8 methods on a 2 inch rancho quicklift setup. I want to get a little bit of a wider stance to stop the rubbing when I turn at full lock. What are your thoughts on wheel spacers? I've always felt like the put a lot of strain on wheel bearings and other suspension components but I've noticed a lot of guys run them on here. Will that do the trick? Or should I go with just an inch of a coil spacer up top my quicklift to get a little more clearance? Thanks!

 

Also, I was looking at doing the mactrac spindles later down the road, but I see you need a 17inch minimum wheel. And I just bought brand new 16x8 methods that I don't want to get rid of.. Would wheel spacers fix that problem when the time comes?

 

Do it right- get wheels with your preferred backspacing (stock is 5.5'' bs, so look for wheels that are 4'' bs)

I went with 2in spacers and I actually rubbed more but yeah go with a correct backspacing.

 

I have 1.25 wheel spacers with no problems!

If you want to buy them, buy them from a good company, remember all the weight and stress lies on the lugnuts and now in the spacers...

Aaaaaand just make sure that you clean everything before installing, do not overtorque anything and use locktite...

Many will say it's dangerous, many will say it's not... do a little more research and make a decision...

Oh god, why does this happen with the wheel spacers?

 

^^^^because this guy prob didn't check tightness on spacers often and maybe he had a cheap brand of spacers. Spidertraxx and Bora are good quality brand names. Many people including myself use them with zero issues. Just check them every so often and make sure you follow proper installation instructions.

 

Spidertraxx 1.25" wheel spacers are very good quality and a lot of guys use them. They're only like $100 which is pretty good for a quality product.

 

How long have you had them on for, and with any lift or bigger tires at all?

 

Have had 1.5 inch spacers on my 1 gen for 2 years now, not a single problem. Just like others said, if you do run them-check them, a lot. Also, buy from a good company like spidertraxx, dont buy some cheap shit on eBay!

 

I have run 1.25 inch spider trax spacers for many years and quite a few vehicles with no issues.

 

I run Spidertrax on my Tacoma. My old lady has a set of Spidertrax on her JKU. She has a set of 42DD wheel adapters on her Jetta (5x100 to 5x114). Ive had the spacers on my truck for almost 2 years, same with the Jeep. And we've been running the adapters on the Jetta for over 2 years. No issues with any of the vehicles.

Long story short. Stick with name brand, quality products and install them properly and you shouldnt have an issue.

 

Also have spidertrax 1.25" on front and back and they're great! Definitely make sure they're torqued and you won't have any problems. Running 285s though so I don't know about the rubbing with 295s...may need to go to the 1.5" spacers...

 

I got the 1.25" spidertraxx spacers too on my stock trd's. I like how it gave the truck a stalkier stance without being too much.

Wheel spacers are not bad at all. I have bora wheel spacers at 1.25" they are Damn bullet proof. It will do the same exact thing as wheels with offset.

 

Red loctite and proper torque are musts.

Any time you have the wheels off, re-check spacer torque before puttin' 'em back on.

Make sure you don't overtorque your lugnuts either.

Quality spacers properly installed are no more dangerous than anything else on your vehicle. ANY shoddy installation or maintenance on a vehicle is dangerous. Use quality parts and do quality work.

 

Far too much maintenance with no gain imo.

 

Same with any other rims that have offset it all puts more strain on parts.

 

I think spacers will probably make your full lock rub worse.
