You guys know me, "Toyota" and "diesel" were mentioned in the same article, and I got all excited. Unfortunately, this thing isn't planned to come to the states any time soon, but I would love to drop this engine into my Tacoma or a new Tundra!!! - 007Tacoma

So, I have just been told that this thing will bolt right up where a 4.7L should go. Hmmm...

thats sweet but i'd still be happy with their 3.0. although almost 450 ft/lbs of torque would be bitchin!

Yeah, if they would put this in the new Tundra DC 4WD, then I would be pre-ordering and selling my Tacoma. :D

damn... not bad... for some reason i knew toyota wouldnt be far behind in the diesel world.... and yes, they need to throw that in a Tundra. Tundra sales would shoot through the roof. I like my F250... love my Tacoma... but would much rather have a twin turbo diesel Tundra DC on 20s.

only thing i notice that im not too sure of... is the top mounted intercooler

Nope. It is made by Toyota with assistance from their Hino division.

He can make it happen. As a matter of fact, Todd was telling me that they can get these engines straight from Australia for a damn skippy price. I wanted to do one, but I don't need that much power at the price of such a drop in fuel economy. I would be much more kosher with the 3.0L D4-D out of the Hilux.

Hope you want one that is 10 years old. Toyota hasn't sold the diesel Hilux in Canada since 1999 (Hilux Surf = 4Runner). Now they have the Tacoma with out a diesel option just like the US.

Not unheard of. Some of the newer deisels are pushing 55K psi....or higher.

Why would they need the psi to be so high?

To provide better atomization of the diesel as it leaves the injector and provide enough pressure to provide multiple injections (think pilot injection) during the stroke of each cylinder. All 8 cylinders share the same "common rail" - hence the name. ;)
