Before you all chastise me for not using the "search feature and "not looking it up" I did and did not see all that much on what I am wondering about.

    I have a DBLC LB TRD Sport 4 x4 V6 2007 taco.
I recently acquired this at the end of this past October 14.
I have noticed that my around town MPG is approximately 12 MPG.
Does this seem low to you all?
On the highway I'm thinking 18-20 at best?

My 1992 4 cylinder Camry gets 17 MPG in town, and approximately 30-32 on the highway by the way which all things considered is quite good IMO.

The 12 may be a little low. 18-20 on highway seems about right. When you say around town, do you mean slow, crawling, rush-hour type traffic? If so, then the 12 seems about right. Also your highway speed will affect your mileage more than you might think. When I get over 2,000 RPM on the highway I get less than 18 mpg. My truck is a '14 DCLB 4x4 V6 auto. These trucks are certainly not known for great gas mileage!!

If SD in your info is short for South Dakota then you could have the winter fuel blend that kills fuel mileage.

    -lift on the truck
    -larger tires
-stock size but an aggressive off-road tire can weigh more
-maintenance(plugs, fuel filter) I didn't look for the year of your vehicle when i started typing
    -short trips

    hwy mileage looks about right

12 seems pretty low to me. I'm not a long bed, but I get around 15 average. A lot of hills around here too. I personally think 15 is not so good being stock. I'm due for new spark plugs though.

Have you checked last time it's been maintained?

How are you calculating your MPG? 12 seems low. I'm getting 16-18 with about a 50/50 city (rush hour) highway (75-80 mph) split. Calculated based on miles and gas in at fill ups.

To chime in I have a 4cyl Access Cab 4x4 5spd manual with a lift and mild upgrade tires on it. Yes I know nothing like you have but to give you an idea. On the highway with a tail wind around 65mph I can squeeze 23mpg out of it. Everyday commuting in the summer I average 20mpg (mainly highway) Right now in the winter same road I am doing 17-18mpg. City it will suck down to 15mpg. I drove a 2015 V6 long bed double cab 4x4 for a week and got about 2mpg less then my 4-banger. I would say you are about right where you should be. But yeah the tacomas do not get all that great mileage considering a new f150 will get mid 20s

The colder the weather, and the more cold starts, the worse your MPG will be.

Even in -20 using 4x4 in the snow, i don't get much below 14mpg at any time. winter i typically get 14-17mpg and summer 16-20mpg. It definitely gets better mpg than my 89 and 99 4runners.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I would say 12 MPG may be right for the driving you do. You have DCLB so thats as heavy as Tacoma can get, plus you live in cold place, its winter now so Ethanol in fuel makes for less efficiency.
Combine all the things that are against you. 12 MPG may not be that bad.

Gasoline engines are not that good when it comes to idle, and city driving. Diesel is what you want to have if thats what you doing. Than the bigger the engine the more fuel you waste.
So Camry a lighter car, with smaller engine doing 17 MPG is not that surprising and makes your 12 MPG look actually not that bad.

I checked yesterday as a matter of fact.. I'm getting about 18 right now (90% highway @ 75mph average) using 87 octane regular unleaded. This usually jumps up to 21 when the weather breaks and the summer blend comes around in may/june

12 MPG? Never.. Then again, I've never used a full tank around town so i can't really measure accurately .. the lowest combo of hgwy/town I've ever recorded was 17. 87 octane.

That's YOUR mileage. You can see that most here don't come close to that.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'm sure with that age, a tuneup and fluid change in all the diffs, transmission and engine would do wonders for it. Other than that, keep your tires inflated properly and your RPM under 2000 as much as you can, that's where the sweet spot is for mileage in a truck.
