So I Cant Use Auto LSD in 4wd

So what's the point?

I actually picked up the owners manual and that's what it says.

Why bother even including it on 4WD vehicles????

 

IMHO because when you turn off the VSC in 2WD it's handy on snowy roads. The auto LSD still works technically in 4HI because the VSC will limit wheel spin. At the end of the day the question really should be "why can't we have a real LSD like the Colorado?"

You can do the "yellow wire" mod and have TRAC in 4lo. I did it in my truck and it does work. Not as good as ATRAC but it works none the less.

 

because at least 1 wheel in the front and one wheel in the back will be turning at the same speed. If the ALSD tries to limit slip on the slipping wheel in the back, the wheel in front will be slowed down as well. All 4 wheels are mechanically connected thru diffy and transfercase.

As stated above, its for when in 2wd.

 

2015 model. Says only works in 2wd. So why would it turn auto LSD on instead of 4hi

Not aware of this in the 2015. For the rest of us, the electronic LSD works in 2H and 4H from the factory. By taking 10 seconds and cutting a wire that is easy to access, we can have LSD in 4Lo also

Mine works fine. Both fronts spin, both rears spin. Works in reverse too. First I've heard of this issue...but I'm 2012.

I don't think that statement is limiting the feature to 2WD only on 4WD models. Go get your truck dirty and give us a full report.

 

I'm pretty sure the ALSD you speak of in 4WD is TRAC

 

LSD works with TRAC off

 

K , so I thought I might be losing my mind so I just went and did it

2WD , push the VSC button , AUTO LSD and VSC OFF light come on

Switch into 4HI , both lights go out

Push the button nothing happens

Hold the button for the 3-5 turns on the VSC OFF light

Like I thought

Yup, those of us past 09 get to suck limes though .

I'd throw in a Detroit TruTrac, which is better than the Hino limited anyways, but there's a lot of people that think it would mess with the VSC at high speeds. I like my VSC due to a previous close call which leaves me without access to a true LSD.

Does Truetrac work with one wheel in the air ? Answer is NO.
But Hino LSD does ....
Therefore
Hino LSD > Truetrac.

 

Lol, I was looking at it maintenance wise. The TrueTrac will last as long as the truck. That Hino will wear out and need servicing. If I have a rear wheel up in the air offroad I'm past what my truck and my skill are capable of .

 

My 2011 SR5 will run ALSD in 4H but not 4L.

 

They changed it. In my 09 the auto LSD indicator would come in in 4wd on my '15, nothing.
