265/70/16 vs. 265/75/16

    265/70R16 is the stock size for TRD Off Roads. 265/75R16 is the largest tire that can be put on without having to trim.

    So to firm this question up... You can put 265 75 r16 tires on the stock STEEL WHEELS right? and have no rubbing?

    Correct! Thats what I have on my stock TRD offroad and have never had a rubbing problem.

    I just signed up so I could follow this thread. Started looking at new tires and was thinking about the 265/75. Love to know anyones opinions on mpg, acceleration etc. I'm worried that my little 4-cyl. won't be able to run them.

    Also anyone running Goodyear Duratrac in that size?

    Also wondering the same thing... seems the 75 series are more popular (and therefore less expensive).

    Also, if you post fuel economy, please specify if you placed a factor in the mileage for the larger tires - they rotate ~7% less

    I went from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 moto metal 951
    I had to remove the front mud flap and trim some of the front plastic

    I too had to remove the mud flaps and do some minor trimming when I went from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16. Moto Metal 955's with the Goodyear DuraTracs.

    How do the DuraTracs ride? I'm going to check them out today, seems like the would be loud on the highway. I need something that can handle Vail snow and Moab sand but still be ok on the highway :)

    Stick on hood scoop from Autozone.
    You won't rub on the stock wheels with 265/75/16 tires. Aftermarket rims have different offset and backspacing and do run the risk of rubbing.

    True.

    No rubbing when using 265/75/16 on stock wheels.

    When I put in wheels with 4.5 backspacing, it rubbed at full lock. That was even with 1.75" lift. I lifted it some more and solve the problem.

    Note: At 1.75" lift, it rubbed in the front. Maybe I could have just solved it by increasing the caster angle.

    A little extra sidewall is nice in many off-road situations, particularly if you often find yourself needing to "air down." That said, the right tread for your terrain in a 265/70 will go 99.9999% of the places that a similar 265/75 will. To the point that the biggest difference is probably the 1/4" lift that you get from the slightly taller tire.

    On-road, depends on your truck. The slightly bigger tires are nicer on mine because it's an MT and I went with a relatively light 265/75 so I don't pay a big weight penalty but it did drop my highway RPMs just a touch. Many ATs have the opposite problem, though.

    I just put a set of 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeaks on my 2020 OR DCLB. It looks way better than the stock size. Rides better than the stock tires. Just drove it to Arizona and averaged almost 21 mpg, which is good to me considering I was getting 14 mpg on my 16 Tundra.

    Most if not all 265-75/16 recommended wheel width is 7.5".
