You can bet Jeep decides to make a pickup, which the rumor mills says it will, it will offer this motor as well. This would be a perfect motor for a Tacoma. =(

I am just fanning the flames of the "Toyota not offering a gen 3 diesel option" resentment. In my fantasy world Toyota is realizing they made the wrong decision to not offer one and are correcting the problem. But...it's just a fantasy.

Whoah, buddy! Dial it back a notch! I would not even purchase a Tacoma diesel if they offered one because they are status motors now. They end up costing you more in the long run. I still wish Toyota would offer one however. Just posting it because I think I thought other Taco-heads would be interested. Sit down and take a few deep breaths, mkay?

Wow. I'm actually impressed with heep. I never knew it was confirmed that they were gonna retain the solid axles and body on frame. That's good!

I dont know they using FIAT motors, and FIAT is not exactly known for quality....

Yeah but they always get trashed because the wheelin community is like less than 10% (not scientific at all)

So many soccer moms that hate the rough ride and gas mileage but love how "cute" they are.

    My mom is one... :(

I owned a 2010 JK Unlimited Rubicon for a while. I put off buying one for a few years before that because I kept reading internet rumors that Jeep was going to put a diesel in the Wrangler. I will believe Jeep will produce a diesel powered Wrangler when I see a diesel powered Wrangler.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Not true if they are taken care of and maintained properly, a diesel will run circles around a gas engine who has the same care in the mileage department before a major engine overhaul. For instance, there are guys out there with 7.3 and 12 valve cummins diesels with 500k plus only on regular maintenance. Some of them have over a million miles and are still going, sure they have likely had several transmissions, differentials and other chassis components, but no real bad problems with the engines themselves.

Didn't the Liberties come with a diesel option at some point? I don't know if they were any good or not.

While the new Jeeps look good and I like some of their abilities. (Rubicon) The real Jeep died when the CJ7 was phased out in 1986, the last few 7's who rolled off the assembly line had this plaque placed on the dash, and it couldn't have been said any better. CJ stood for "civilian Jeep" meaning it was the civvy version of the Jeeps used in war at the time, essentially stripped of the machine gun mount, CB radios, shovels and jerry cans attached to the militray rigs.

    Wranglers are yuppy Jeeps. ;)

The liberty cdi. They used the 2.8 inline 4 that is used in europe in the wrangler. They are a mixed bag due to advancment in tech halfway through the model run and often being sold to dealers and people whole neglected mainainence. I looked at them before I got my tacoma. They hold value way better than other liberty models.
