I used a harbor frieght welder.. But my welds came out like shit! I'm going to eventually have a shop redo it with new pipe lol.. It works tho..

It will work but the spatter will be awful. Tip. Take a Oxy-Acet torch and heat the portions of the pipe red hot to be welded. Doing so will remove all contaminants for a cleaner/stronger weld.

NOTE: most of the problems with those cheap welders is the cheap wire in the. Go with some better stuff and youl notice a difference. I did my exhaust with flux core no problem (besides welding on the stainless tip ahaha)

    This^^.

Better to have chickenwire redneck bed stacks, then to dump it under and down if your not lifted up. You'll get tired of huffing those fumes,,if you are in gridlock,,just sayin. Passing out at the stop light.

Interesting thought... I'm sure there would be a slightly higher heat on the tire behind the exhaust exit, however we know that convection is not an extremely efficient form of heat transfer, especially in the open atmosphere. I deal with heat transfer problems at work and this doesn't concern me. Interesting thought though!

I live in california, dude. We don't get rust here.

you got CO poisoning from having a truck with a side-exit exhaust? come on man, probably not. You were probably doing something stupid or you had a leak in your house. lets stay on topic here. This exhaust is not going to kill me with CO and its legit as F*&k. Love the new exhaust! :woot:

    ***********************

Update, I need to redo my hangers as I have a slight problem with rattling. I should have though of this, being a mechanical engineer, but I didn't account for the linear thermal expansion of the pipe. So when the truck is up to running temperature, the entire pipe grows linearly about 1/4" making it too tight against the bed mount. Either shorten the pipe slightly (then it may be too close to frame mount when cold) or make my hangers hold it in place more securely. I will update when I have time to fix this.

You'll get rust when no one else does. I'm not just talking about the salt belt. Besides, you're in Cali, everything at least gives you cancer there.

Never said i did, said I've had co poisoning twice. People die every year from co trapped under a vehicle, exhaust sytems are designed to prevent that from happening. While moving its unlIkely to be a problem, every time you're stopped is. Most states have laws specifically stating you can't do exactly what you did. And since you live in California i dint even have to Google to know is against the law.

The closest ive personally had with bad exhaust design was a rear exit on a soft top samurai. The low pressure sucked exhaust straight into the cab until the pipe was corrected.

Cool, so you're one of those guys that just has to hate when someone welds up a cool pipe for their 4-wheeling truck. Congratulations you law-abiding citizen, you! Exhaust systems are designed for a lot of things- I just decided I wanted to change the design of mine. I can assure you the exhast is not going into the cab.

No, he's been tucked enough times to be cautious... I get that, my grandfather had CO2 poisoning once and it was scary enough that I know I never want to have it happen... But that doesn't change the fact that Ima have it dump pre-axle when I go custom... I also don't live or drive in places that have traffic much, if ever

Yeah I live out in the country. No traffic here. If I was sitting in traffic everyday in LA maybe I would have it exit out the back. But then again, I would probably never live in LA. ;)

    Ah, children

That looks good, any issues with it rattling? Are you running off the stock muffler or did you need a shorty?

No issues with rattling, the pipes and plate are one solid piece thats huck bolted to the box. I added a length of flex pipe between the muffler and the exit plate. It has a rock ripper header, no cat and ive used multiple magna flows, thrush, walker, and flowmaster mufflers with this setup.
