As the title says! How come Toyota does not sell the 2X4 RWD Prerunner up in the northeast? Any plans to do so with the 2016?

Because rwd is silly in the winter and they likely don't move enough units to justify selling then up here. I'd hazard to guess 4x4 trucks move off the lots much faster than 2x4 up here . Can't be too big of a market for a rwd truck in a place that's covered in snow/ ice for ~1/3 of the year

Buying my 12 Prerunner, there was maybe 1 or 2 available in mid-atlantic region. None with towing package. Lots available in middle states though. I had to order which worked out well. Regardless of what the dealer sez, they will order what sells.
Update to 2014/15: I can now find 2 Prerunners, both with Sport package & Tow ready in Gaithersburg Md.. So they've expanded their inventory but count on them loading it up; good luck finding a SR5 like mine in open stock.

Are there any differences in the cars themselves. For example, galvanizing against salt etc?

Is NJ considered NE? Plenty here, 3rd gen pre runners everywhere.

Seriously, is this about 3rd gens? Because there are plenty of Pre runners, 2nd and 1st gen here.

Because they wouldn't sell here. I have never seen one in person.

Most people here won't buy a 2WD truck unless it's for a fleet or maybe construction (and even most of them are 4WD). If they're set on one otherwise, it's a cost savings thing and they are going to go for a 5-lug anyway.

The core vehicle is the same. The bolt ons, decals, installed electronics and prices change.

And yes, the driveline and suspension are part of the bolt ons.

I still dont have a clue why somone would buy a jacked up off road looking TRD yet it is only 2 dw...

Got to love seeing them stuck in the parking lot and they pay all that money even more than the SR5 in 4wd yet only 2wd.....

If you are going to dress a truck up to look like a 4x4 it should be a 4x4....
Other than that they are mall crawling want a be 4x4.....

I was thinking the same thing....

    Or...tell the dealer..."I WANT ONE, here's a downpayment - FIND ME ONE"

    Or ..ORDER ME ONE

I can't imagine they'll deny a sale. If they deny a sale - time to visit another dealer.

I'll admit, when I learned that TRD Off Road PreRunners exist, I was confused. It seemed like a contradiction.

But I wasn't even really aware that PreRunners existed at all either. Like I said, I've never seen anything but a 4x4 or 5-Lug Tacoma here.

Incorrect. I have a 2010 DCLB Pre Runner, I also have another 4wd Tacoma and didn't need a second one. I bought the Pre runner because I wanted the Tacoma reliability, but did not want the maintenance issues associated with their 4wd systems. I also like that the 2wd drive is getting 22-23 mpg. on the highway for me. If I had to have just one up here, it would certainly be 4wd. But having driven this truck all winter in quite a bit of snow, I am surprised at how capable it is, almost never spins, and with 265-75-17 General Grabber AT's on it , handles the snow very well. I also modified the suspension, a 3" lift to clear the tires and provide some hauling capacity, as it is a truck and gets used like one. Now I got to go out there and break the bad news to her, that she ain't nothing but a " mall crawling ,parking lot wanna be 4 WD..." LOL
