From creating ABS... You really think early Formula races or someone else wouldn't of figured out that well tuned ABS allows for steering and braking, rather than just either or? I'm not saying they would of implemented it, but they would of tried it.

Also aircraft ABS does shorten stopping distance and saves tires. It also keeps them pointed straight so they don't roll over and simulate a daisy cutter. The aircraft ABS system is so well tuned that it takes advantage of all the static friction possible. The problems people are having with the Tacoma have to do with the Tacoma's ABS, not ABS in general.

Now we can go back to more sarcasm and generic comments.

Go figure this probably why most people have a problem with ABS. I see this when I am on the road too. A lot of people out there in 4 wheel drives thinking they are invincible and can drive like they do when the roads are normal and dry ( 4 wheel will get you moving, but wont stop you when your going to fast for conditions). That's why a stay in 2 wheel as long as possible gives me a feel for how slick it really is and it can be fun too.

When it happened to me I was doing 1 mph approaching the main street getting ready to pull out of a parking lot. My front tires rolled onto some slush and the abs kicked on. My truck rolled right into the main road and cut off traffic with my foot buried into the brake pedal as hard as I could. It continued to roll even with my tires on bare pavement, all while cars were blaring their horns at me. So that puts your theory down the crapper. Ever since this happened, now when im stopping and think the abs may kick on, I keep my hand on the shifter and am ready to shift into neutral, and i'm ready to stomp on the E-brake. I try to replicate it all the time, and the brakes work fine. It just decided to happen to me at the worst and most dangerous time. Go figure....

I love the " 4x4 doesn't make you invincible " story , it gets a lot of mileage each winter

It's right up there with " most of the vehicles I see in the ditch are 4x4's "

    and " 4x4 doesn't help you stop "

I always hear this from people with minivans or 80's beaters who can't afford a good car. It's their way of saying they accept that there little shit box is okay stuck in the snow bank with a dead battery because a newer 4x4 isn't really THAT much better.

E-brake will always overcome the force of the car being in drive. If it doesn't you need to open up your rear drums because there is something wrong.

I wonder if I should go buy a gun to protect myself from the ABS menace. Damn government, it's time for an ABS revolution....

Ah, my friend that's what we call rear wheel drive push, I haven't seen a rear wheel drive automatic that doesn't do this with slick conditions in one form or another, Old and new vehicles. When in 2wh put in neutral when coming to a stop.

As I stated before, I have the same issues with the abs as other people have said. The problem comes when 1 or 2 of the tires hits snow or ice and starts to lock up. It applies abs to all tires even if you have traction on clean pavement with the other tires. It keeps the truck from stopping even at slow speeds. Its an overly sensitive system.

There are multiple instances throughout this thread of people stating they were traveling at a low rate of speed. I've had it happen to me a number of times in my driveway, but then again I'm sure I was going too fast for the conditions.

My 99 s10 pickup did this, 87 blazer did it, 75 dodge pickup did it. All of these vehicles were automatics and the non abs ones, the front wheels just locked and I had no steering. At low speed coming to a stop.

I have yet to have this happen other then when I was going to fast for conditions. But I have a stick, not an auto. On a slick icy hill sometimes 2mph is to fast (done that with the 87 blazer).
