My stock rear end ate $2800 in parts over ten years. A couple of ring gears, bent axle housing, and bent axle shaft...on 33's. On 37's I went through one third member, one axle, and when it seized up at speed it took the driveline so I guess you could add that in there. Those were all caused by the same event, as I hit the e-locker button between shifts under full throttle and I didn't wait for a solid lock light... The locker hung up half way and broke a side gear, which ate up everything else. My fault. In my experience, a 4.88 ECGS diff on 37's is much stronger than factory 3.73's on 33" tires.

You can keep ABS with an aftermarket axle, and the E-brake, but since I never use those things I didn't spend money on them.

Thats the 10.5 but I would be running 4.88s anyways. The 9.5 has every ratio out there available. I always hear about the TRD off road diff exploding...
 you did that on purpose??

How is a 4.88 ECGS diff on 37's just as strong as a factory on 3:73's? Material their made of?

Here is me breaking two rims at 80mph. This was the reason I moved to 37's and double beadlocks. (44seconds in)

Hit a rock. That one year I went through 8 or 9 KM2's with catastrophic failures (sidewall mostly) and a few wheels, not to mention a bunch of broken wheel studs. Since going to recentered HMMWV wheels and military tires I haven't had a single flat! Also went with ARP studs and haven't broken one yet.

Something with the factory ring and pinions is fucked up... I destroyed one set in my 2005 and had it replaced with all factory toyota stuff under warranty and destroyed that set too... On factory tires... I went through 2 of them in under a year and that was before I ever started wheeling...

With my ECGS 4.88's and 33's I recently took 3 teeth off the ring gear after running it for about 2 years. Got it replaced under warranty as well.

You did that on 37s?? They have a thing on their website about anything bigger than 35 voids warranty...

The first one was when I had had the Tacoma for only a few months and had less than 13K miles on it. I was stopped on a paved road and put the throttle to the floor and it went crunchy... The 2nd one started howling (I suspect poor install on the crush washer) and when I pulled it I found some chips in the ring gear... I had just been regularly daily driving it when it started howling. The 3rd one I had just had lunch with a friend (IdahoLandHo) and we were headed to go wheel and it started knocking about a mile before we left the pavement:frusty: Pulled the diff and 3 teeth were missing on the ring gear. I assume I shock loaded it at some point but it was the first time I had gone wheeling in 3 months... I literally drove it 250+ miles just to meet him to go wheeling... But I also drove it those 250 miles back home at 55 mph with it knocking like a son of a bitch and it got me home.

If that is the one he killed on Pritchett I think he was still on 35's then.

I've destroyed a set of 4.56 pinion gear on 35s from east coast I've also destroyed another pinion gear on 37s all happened on the road not offroad . Both from east coast and now my air locker is leaking in the diff somewhere so I gotta ship out the diff again
