When your truck is cranking does the tach register an rpm reading?
It probably won't on the dash, do you have access to a obd2 scan tool or ultraguage?

the tach does not register a reading like I thought it should that kinda aimed me at the crank sensor my question is does your Tacoma s tach register rpm before it starts 4x4? if it does ill replace the sensor tomorrow

On my tach it doesn't, my ultraguage shows 235 rpm just before it fires.

But to be honest though my truck starts fast enough that it doesn't have time to register, it usually fires as soon as I hit the key. Occasionally it will have to crank for a few seconds though...haven't payed the rpm guage much attention before when starting it.

man mine will crank and crank and not register a thing, my theory is that the ecu will not send fuel or spark to an engine that it doesn't see rpm for. its 170$ part I got kids a morgatge and that's a pricey gamble, I may roll em though

Nothing man, I have I think in the past seen it move when I occasionally experienced an intermittent no-start condition common among the 1gr-fe engines... That was suspected by many to be the result of the fuel pump not priming quick enough or losing prime upon shutdown. I never did anything about it and haven't had it happen again in years, my brothers 2010 has done it before as well. She's never stranded me though, bought her new 8 years ago.

You may be forced to drop it off at a Toyota dealer, or a reputable independent Toyota shop. Throwing parts at it and washing the intake with starting fluid is not good.

I didn't think you could just swap ECU's on these trucks? Thought there was a programming issue with them.

So what do we know so far:
    1) Not a bad Battery
    2) Not a bad alternator
    3) Not a bad fuel pump
    4) Not a bad ECM
    5) Not a bad crank sensor
    6) Not bad gas

    Could it be:
    1) An issue with the mass air flow sensor
    2) bad plug wires
    3) girlfriend put sugars in gas tank
    4) short

    What do we know?
    1) Truck did turn on after some tweaking
    2) Truck won't turn on once it sits for a while

This sounds like my old 85 carbureted accord. Sucker would not start cold.
