After you guys remove your mudflaps, do you leave the plugs in the holes or remove them? If you remove the plugs did you do anything to cover up the holes in the fender well?

On this note, I removed my front mudflaps yesterday. I removed them because I just installed slightly larger-than-stock tires (265/70-17s) on XD Revolver wheels, and they were rubbing the mud flaps in slow speed hard turns.

Now the tires aren't rubbing anymore, but there's some sort of weird vibration going on when driving the truck. It wasn't there when the mud flaps were on. It doesn't start until about 25-30 mph, and it seems to be oddly high frequency. It's cold out, so I only managed to remove one of the plastic push pins without breaking it, so all three of those holes on each side are open. I ran all three of the 10mm screws back into their holes on each side. Everything seems solid....

Any ideas? Thanks. BTW, I'm a retread; created a user account with this name about 6 years ago, but apparently I was inactive long enough that they deleted my account...

Probably your new wheels. I think those are lug centric so one lug tightened a little more than the other and you get a vibe. It could be a balance issue also.

I put the plugs back in the holes after i took the mud flaps of the very first day i bought my truck. In regards to your issue.Your front end might need re-alighned or wheel/tire re-balanced.

You are correct Sir. The Revolvers are lug centric not hub centric. Taco's use hub centric wheels. OP you may be able to get a ring to go in the middle of the wheel to make them hub centric.

    Thanks for responses all.

Failed to mention it in my post, but I had put about 50 miles on new wheels and tires before having this problem. Sequence of events: installed tires/wheels Tuesday, drove around all day Wed (including some offroad), parked Wed night without having had any problems. Snowed 6" Thursday, truck didn't move. Cleaned it off Friday, then took off front mudflaps. Drove it around and then noticed the problem.

Having said all that, I just drove it again and the problem has either disappeared or significantly diminished. Is it possible that I could have had enough ice on one of the tires to cause a vibration like that? It's thawing out for the first time since the snow around here, maybe that was the issue? We don't get a lot of snow around here typically, so apologies if this is a normal thing in Minnesota or wherever...

For those who have not put the plugs back in the holes, have the holes bothered you at all?

Not sure, like they said it definitely isn't from removing the mud flaps. But since you said the frequency disappeared or significantly reduced, still keep an eye out and if they come back, go to the tire shop you had your tires and rims installed at.

Replace the bolts in the holes and plug the other holes with black plugs from Lowes. Looks more finished and keeps shit out of the holes.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
If you care about your paint I would get new flaps for it soon. I drive on gravel frequently and dumbspelled out and thought it would be cool to take the flaps off my old second gen. Chipped the fuck out of my rockers, lower doors and panels. Luckily the truck was silver so it didn't show unless you were close but it still looked like shit. I put my flaps back on, even though I hated them to no end.

At least on my first gen they are thick rubber, flexible mudflaps that are useful. Stiff plastic flaps like second gens have belong on cars, not trucks.
