I agree with DoorDing . Try an aftermarket transmission shop . Sometimes they can work their magic . There has been a lot of excellent advice posted within this thread

Planning to do the flush this days and will let you know if any luck there.

Is it important to reset the ECU after that?

How do I locate the SLU solenoid.

Did some google search with no luck so far.

Is this a dyi project? a few more directions there?

I was never planning to replace the transmission at the dealer anyway, so looking at all my options here.

    Thanks

    Flushed the transmission today.

    no major changes yet

planning to change the load bearing (looks bad so far with too much movement) and the 3 x u joints.

    Will keep you guys posted.

    Thanks again!

Changed the u joints and load bearing (that was clearly bad)

Still the car vibrates at the rear, very bad sometimes at low speed rpm, driving up hill, or almost flat sometimes. Mostly sometimes between 20 - 30rpm. Not always though.

I'm also noticing a very slight vibration as I push the gas (not sure if related)

If it would be the rear differential how would I go at it? How to diagnose that part?

What to change to the rear differential?

    Thank you

Hi Dave, IT sure sounds like much improvement, although not completely resolved, since you started. Since it now seems to be in the rear and only a minor vib with engine torque, Perhaps I would not bring it back to a mechanic/dealer and get another opinion. Since you helped it so much with the u joint and bearing change - maybe it's not the tranny??

One other thing to check - Motor and tranny mounts??? IF they are loose/broken it would let the entire drive train get out of alignment and cause some strange issue - even all the way back to the rear.... just a thought. Good luck and keep us posted!!

After more testing can't really say there is a lot of good improvement.

So far flushing the transmission was a good thing. It needed and I think the transmission runs smoother, slightly. Might be just in my head.

The carrier bearing had too much play, so it needed changing. The u joints the same.

I still have the heavy vibration at low speed. I feel it in the rear.

There is also a very slight vibration at high speeds on freeway. Very annoying. I think it is since I've changed the u joints and carrier bearing.

Is it possible that whatever is wrong to be felt more now since the carrier bearing has no play?

Is it possible for this vibration to be from pinion bearing? How do I diagnose this?

I'll look into motor and trans mounts.

    Thanks in advance.

what's the best way to locate a trans shop?

Shops tend to charge a lot of money in this area and not get involved into complicated projects with too much liability.

    thanks

This is a dumb question but how old are the spark plugs?

Remove the drive shaft and put it in 4WD and take it for a spin.

I'll do a online research for trans shops in the area and see what I can come up with.

We did mark the drive shaft parts, but at cleaning we lost some marks.

How do I diagnose correctly if the drive shaft lines up right?

    Thanks

If you think the rear drive train (U joints, Carrier Bearing, Rear end//diff are the issue - removing the rear drive shafts takes these out of the problem. Since you have the problem during acceleration and not coasting - this isolates the f and rear. Driving it w/o rear drive shaft in 4wd will tell you if it is not in the rear end (i.e. issues goes away.).

This is sometimes done to fix vibs in the frame/chassis/drivetrain to help isolate if it is more front then rear drivetrain/issues.

    I'll try that

Could I be driving the car for about a week in 4x4 without the driveshaft?

Anything bad can happen on normal commute driving?

    thanks

I don't think it should make a difference if the mileage is really low - but I'd wait until you can replace it the next day or two. Just in case!
