Just asking for some prayers from those who do. I was accepted into the hiring process for the Edmond, OK Fire Department. I know it is a long shot, but it'd be a great job to have.

Also, any fire fighters on here have any advice for the interview process?

Prayers your way brother. Ive been a firefighter for 10 years now and a Paramedic for 6, so here is my advice...

Be honest, and be willing. Knowledge is a great thing, but a lot of it is Heart with Firefighting. Dont act like you have the NO FEAR attitude. any firefighter that says "no Fear" is a dead firefighter.

Definitely not one to say "no fear". I'm 27 years old with a little boy due the first part of April. I have a family to consider. I know it's a career that involves risking my life, but that doesn't mean being stupid about it. :)

And I definitely put my heart and soul into any job I do. It's how I was raised, and it's how I will always be. Otherwise, there's no reason to try anything out!

Be honest and attentive. Look your interviewer in the eye and be confident. I do not know your hiring process but if it is anything like ours honesty is huge. I'm sure you will be fine.

Once on, as a new guy, keep your mouth shut....and listen. Learn what to do from your good peers and what not to do from your bad ones. Always pitch in to help, don't let yourself be told. Be the first one to get the phone, clean, whatever has to be done. It's all about team work but it shows the veterans the new guy is solid, assertive and not lazy.

Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine

I'm a probie right now. Been on 4 months and my advice for the interview would be always repeat the question they ask and always give a good conclusion.
Example: question: where do you see yourself in five years?

Answer: where do I see myself in five years? In five years I see myself....blah blah blah lol make it sweet and realistic. Don't say you wanna be a captain or chief. Everyone says that. Then end it with "and that's where I see myself in five years" good luck!

Solid advice for ANY job. This is the attitude that separates successful people from the rest of the pack in pretty much any career.

    Congrats!!!

The physical is usually pass/fail. You don't necessarily need to be first or the best in this stage.....just pass it all. Good luck and stay positive!!!

Well, I psyched myself out during the physical test and screwed it up.

I'll be applying next time they open for recruiting.

I was carrying the 24' ladder back to the hanging rack. Shuffled it from one arm to both hands, and in the process I just barely nicked the ground with the foot of the ladder. Automatic disqualification.

My timer was very apologetic, saying he was sorry about it all. Told him I understood...I knew as soon as it made the scrape. Thanked him and the lead man in charge of hiring. Both told me to try again next time. I told them I'd be there.
