Nothing is impossible. No reason why you couldn't fit it on a bedrack in the bed or on a shell. You could still put it over the cab it just will overhang because the cab is a little smaller. Not impossible though.

Are you asking if it's possible to the cab of the access cab? Like Zach said, nothing is impossible. Yakima makes q-towers that fit the access cab (I think clips q112 and q116) and I'm sure thule does the same. The tents aren't too heavy but you still need to consider weight distribution on the roof. It also depends on which model you get. My CVT Rainier would have a lot of overhang but a CVT Shasta, or smaller, wouldn't be as bad.

Yeah I'm talking about mounting on the roof... I would prefer a smaller tent quite honestly... I'll do some more research. If it's not too much overhang then I think I would go for it.

    While we're on the topic...

Has anyone put a CVT Mt. Rainer or Tepui Gran Sabana over top of a double cab? I am going to be mounting to Thule crossbars. Not sure if the 72" length would be too much.

What kind of bedding do you guys use and leave in the tent? Im thinking of getting a down comforter from big Agnes and leaving it in the tent all the time. And for winter just bring an extra mummy bag and blankets.

I wouldn't leave any in, the slightest moisture in the blanket/bedding could start a lot of mold...

I left my RTT packed for a week at a time after being soaked due to bad weather and had no problems with mold. I usually left the zipper open a bit in hopes that wind could get in there and help dry it out. I also left two pillows, a wool blanket and a mummy bag in it 24/7 with zero issues.

Many leave sleeping gear up there year round for unexpected camp outs. Kinda one of those perks of having the rtt.

Yeah I wouldn't leave any bedding in it for storage unless its like a few days. First thing I do when I get to camp is set up the tent and let it air out.

Just a bunch of old crap
It will fit. I have a Tepui Kukenam and pondered the thought of doing a roof rack for it. Measurements show it would have worked. I already have a bed rack that is roof height, so I just put it there instead.

Just got mine all aired out and packed away after this weekends trip:

Tried mounting it with the overhang in the back instead of over the cab this time- I really liked it a lot!

FWIW I leave my sleeping bags inside most of the time too. It's just a perk of the setup. :D

Yeah I meant for travel Not for storage. If my tent is damp when I fold it up after a trip I don't leave anything in it and open it to air it out asap.

I'll check out those two brands posted above, but I get discounts on big Agnes products, so I'll probably stick with them unless I find a killer deal elsewhere.

Hmmm... I'm liking the Idea more and more. I'm just being lazy and I really don't want to fab up and above the Bestop rack.

what are you guys doing to keep the gear in the bed from getting wet? Has anyone tried to build a bed rack that mounts to the truck bed floor and a cover that goes beneath the tent to the bed rails. I am looking to buy mt rainier from cvt if any one in utah has one for sale.

Someone's got a bed rack that's low enough a soft top fits over it.

That's like the old CanBack tops. Wish they were still around.

I've seen plenty of RTT's used with the old Canbacks. As long as the original design has been maintained with the new owner it shouldn't be a problem at all.

those weight ratings are just like all the other racks etc. They are the weight limit for dynamic loads (i.e. while you're driving). Static loads (while you are parked) can be much higher.

I know that my Thule cross bars have a 165lb rating according to the store I got them from which is the dynamic rating, static they are rated to about 700lbs I think, may be less.

I would like to mount the tent the same height as the cab. I am going to a local shop and is if they will make me a canvas to fit the bed. I have thought about putting it under a soft top shell.

Finally got these Blue Sea 12V sockets wired in! Thanks for the input guys, wasn't a hard mod at all, just took 10ga wire to the battery with an inline fuse and grounded them to the frame :D
