Supposedly, from what I was told by another member, load e tires are now more likely to be 6-8 ply and c would be less than that. Only way to know for sure is to read the sidewall for the actual ply count.

It's my understanding that most tires sidewalls are only 2 ply...with some having 3, all with varying degrees of construction. I'm thinking there are no 6, 8 or 10 ply sidewall tires. The Load Range E, D and C refer to the equivalent of the old tires that used to have that many layers. Now they just have a stiffer sidewall (stiffest for E and less so for C) compared to a Passenger tire.

Ok, I'm no tire expert. What I said was things the Manager at Discount tire was telling me thru our convo bc I had ask exactly what are the differences bc I was a bit confused. He did mention some tires vary. I was under the impression it was that way with plys. Guess I should've done more research before saying something. Thought he would've known tho.
I was also confused with how Cooper says the Maxx are 3ply Armor-Tek carcass constructed, but was being told/thought Load E was 10 ply etc etc).

Anyone think they ride rough? I've browsed through this whole thread, but nothing has been mentioned. I'm considering a set in 285/75s for my heavier LC.

Oh I didn't think anybody was jumping me. Maybe my wording made it sound like I did. Lack of better wording at the time of my response. Seems like I every so often go back and see how I responded to something and want to change it to sound better. Normally my minds in several places on several things.

The ride thing yeah, they definetly ride rough compared to P rated. I think the best way of describing the three most recent tires I've had those being, Duratrac Load E, Maxx Load E, and BFG KO2 Load C, is it feels like if you were to take a "regular" tire and put way to much air in it. You feel all the bumps etc. Between all of those, as far as ride stiffness is concerned, I believe you'd be spliting hairs and they'd balance out in their own way. Of those three, as far as rolling smooth KO2 wins and is the quitest. Duratracs the loudest.

Another thing to consider I'm rolling stock suspension. I'd imagine a good tuned suspension would soak up some of the stiffness. Might not even notice it half as much. I'd be interested on hearing some feedback from some that's ran both.

Yeah they are pretty firm. What would you be trying to compare to?

PSI plays a major role.. I run 32.
I don't find them stiff. I'm sure they feel "stiffer" than a loaf C but that's obvious.

So I can't decide between a 255/80/17 I like the sidewall height on this one but not sure if it's wide enough. Or do I go with a 265/70/17 which is smaller, Or with a 285/70/17? The 285 is a bigger tire but with it comes rubbing issues.

    Your thoughts?

And then there is the 275

They ride way softer than the Toyo Mt's I've ran in the past, currently running them at 35psi and love them.

Where are you using your truck?
The sidewall height is nice but they are still only 32" see my thread vvv
I bought them because I wanted a taller tire and didn't want the major rubbing and for the better snowy roads/ice traction of a narrower tire. Knowing now that the 275 is only 1/2" shorter It makes it a tough decision.
I also have an itch for some 285's if I get the CMC done... I HAVE to be able to run flaps in the winter though.

    I vote 275's for you!

Actually I vote 275/75/17! .... Oh wait... No such thing :annoyed:

Im in S. CA so we have mostly sand, gravel, mud, and rock out here. We do have snow as well in the mountains so we can see a bit of everything. I only drive this truck about 300-400 miles in a month and might hit a trail once a month at the most.

Might need to buy universal flaps like rokbloks or something

Yes with a little rub in reverse just before full lock... If I go full lock I don't rub. It's the way the flaps bulge out...

MTopp, yes I agree and will be looking into new flaps for next winter.

Thanks, I saw another set somewhere that didn't sit inside the wheel well at all and were attached by some metal tabs
