    Installed the Q1 in my 2009 Tacoma today. As others have noted, the install is super easy and takes less than ten minutes from beginning to end. I really wanted to keep the engine cover on my truck and after reading that I'd need to trim it in order to get it to fit right, I decided before I started hacking away I'd at least try to fab up some sort of spacer for the two studs in an attempt to lift the cover enough to clear the raised MAF sensor. Well, instead of spacers I ended up loosening both of the front studs a few threads which gave me about 3/8" of clearance and just enough room to thread the nuts on. Of course after doing that I decided I didn't like the look of the raised engine cover especially since the white padding on the underside of the cover was hanging down and visible from the passenger side of the car. So I took the cover back off the engine and grabbed my dremel. It took me probably three times as long as the install to trim the cover, but in the end, I'm extremely happy with the results. Basically all I did was cut along the outline of the slightly raised square that was already above the sensor. I used the original square cutout as my guide and my starting point as I carefully enlarged it into a rectangle that was just big enough for the entire MAF sensor to fit through. I'll be the first to admit that it's far from perfect but without looking at it in extreme detail I think it appears very OEM and looks like it came that way.

    Anyway, I'll be driving my truck close to 500 miles this coming weekend and I'm hoping to record some personal best gas mileage numbers. Regardless, I'll be sure to report back once I return. My truck is completely stock with the exception of a K&N drop in air filter (I also removed the secondary air filter) and the Eco Block. As for any performance gains, I can't really say anything just yet as I haven't had a chance to take the truck on the highway or to really get on it at all. Either way, two thumbs up to Crawford Performance for an awesome product and I'm looking forward to my fuel savings! :thumbsup:

    Looks very good. At a glance I didn't even notice you altered it, it was trying to look for what you did! Good job.

    I probably wouldn't like the look of the raised cover either, so perhaps there is a way to raise only that part? Like a cutout but with a raised square cover to go over the eco block.

    Update after normal commute.
    We live at roughly 3800' above sea level, about 14 miles to sea level.
    Definite difference in climbing the hill, less downshifting when interference from those who drive slower, then do it with the guy in the other lane, like BFF's. Easier to make hole shots.
    My wife noticed better pick up from stops, and also less downshifting up the hill.
    She got stuck behind one of the numerous incense burner neighbors, driving the Pruis at speed limit through the twisty forest part, so did'nt get to enjoy it as much as I did.
    My truck is Sport 4x4 A/C Manual, her BRZ is auto w/paddles.
    Will update mileage at weekend.
    Pleased with product. My cutout came out like '09 TRDSport4x4', above.

    Wow just from following this thread Q has made a killer living off selling these spacers. I monitor my mpg most long trips and full tank to fill up but I am just so skeptical that raising the maf sensor up alittle will benefit anything of performance or mpg. The maf is still in the air tunnel monitoring the same amount of airflow. There is no real way to test mph increase unless you start the truck with same idling time and driving distance and habit,maybe put it on a rolling dyno is the only real way to have the lowest error analysis percentage. Especially when we are talking about only a claim of 8% increase. Not including that such so simple independent variable as weather tempature, wind mph, and road condition change all the time the 1-2 or 3 -/+ of mpg could be from anything of the changing variables or the performance of the EB. Any increase is great I guess.

    I wil continue to follow the feed back. May even purchase one, it will pay its self off in how ever long if there is a small mpg increase. There is a return policy if not satisfied with the product I believe I read correct?

    Guys, you have to give a look at the thread at your brother (4Runner) forum. Really interesting thread, and lots of opinion changes about the product and the guy behind as you zip down the posts. It's great that Quirt actively participated there.

    The principles of the device, with my limited knowledge, could possibly net a few % fuel economy increase.

    I'm ''diverscale'' on there, and if the shipping costs are not too high for Canada, I will definitely try it, even though I have some concern regarding engine reliability in extreme conditions due to the intentional leaning.

    It's measuring air flow at a different part of the velocity profile. Air in a tube moves fastest in the middle and slowest next to the edges. Changing the sensor location changes how much air it thinks it gets.

    I'm skeptical too. It seems to have good reviews from quite a few members though. Tough to argue with consistent real world results from unbiased reviewers.... although I wish there was some longer term test results

    Just like exhaust flow. Friction at the tubing walls causes slower speeds, which gradually increase towards the middle/center of the area of the tubing.

    Got my results from my first full tank of gas with the Q1 and so far so good. I got 18.9 MPG and I usually get between 17-18. :thumbsup:

    They dont seem to be jumping on the eco block bandwagon as fast as the tacoma guys. A lot of talk about the reliability factor, which im concered about as well.

    For now, i'm going to sit back and watch. I agree, jumping on something like this before long term results are known is generally not a safe bet.
