I have to say best mod yet are Weathertech digital floor mats. My 2006 looks like brand spanking new because of these.

Yeah, they're very nice to have. Just cleaned mine today and they still look new and fit pretty good

I'll let you know when I get them. They are on the slow boat from China at this moment...

So the wind fairing will mount to the front rack bar. How does the basket mount to anything? front and back? bolts extend down through the aluminum square tube? If you used just a 1" square tube, it could be plenty strong and pretty well hidden I suppose and not too bulky.

Yes, the fairing is mounted to the front cross bar. I finally got the rack on today and it won't work with tubing going under the bars. Over the bars would still work however. I did get the materials for the fairing today and got it roughed in. Need to round the corners on the lexan and drill some holes. Also I don't think the U-bolts I got will work so I need to find something else.

I showed this to the Mrs. (the resident sewing expert in the house) to ask her help in building me something like this. I put a USB port inside the console when I replaced the stock radio and wanted a handy place to park my iPod. Good ol' Amazon has these instead for less than $3 shipped:

It attaches with double-stick tape. I have one on order, but it literally is on a slow boat from China and won't be here for a couple weeks.

Cut the tip off last night, at the 1st exhaust flange...

Then decided it wasn't enough, today... so cut it at the downward slope, over the axle. Can't see it all hanging down at all now

The same shit everyone else has.
I made my own fairing for my roof rack.

    EB3A6873-8B7B-4FED-8EE4-7300FA00E09A_zps_57db2921d300f399bd1bea1340dc0fdcef9e4a3f.jpg

Its plexi. The struts are aluminum. They are slotted for adjustement. I used Thule mounting hardware to mount it to the cross bar.

Maybe you could use only the inside bolt of the u bolt to go through the Al square tube. So the tube is flush against the inner side of front/rear rack bars. Then use spacers or stack of washers on top and bottom of tube to center.

Or get Thule Aero bars and don't use a fairing. They have proven to be more quiet and have less drag than a fairing

See if you can get the Thule Aero cross bars to take the place of your OEM cross bars

    That wouldn't be very frugal.
