There are some that don't have a ton of money to throw at truck mods. I have a 3 and 5 year old and a mortgage and bills to pay, so truck mods fall pretty low on the list of priorities. When I do get a chance to mod I try to be frugal about. That's using money wisely not being cheap. Just about all of my mods have served a purpose, for very little money I might add. Not to mention I would prefer to plan and built my stuff myself rather than buy ussaully over priced stuff that sometimes doesn't suit my need. It's more fun and more rewarding that way. ;)

So now we bash people who want to try to make something themselves in a thread titled 'frugal diy mods' ?? Some people will argue about anything anywhere.

Man, even $40 seems extreme. I think I paid half of that to do mine using the LED strips and what not. You must have splurged on a switch or some fancy colored wiring. :D

lets see... $20 for light roll, $5 for some toggle switches (only used one, but still), like $8 for a magnet switch, and $5 for the little connectors, ya i think $40 is about right... and i ended up with some extra light for my fish house so thats a bonus.

I think I spent about half of that and did both my underhood and my bed. Forget if I had enough left over to do my buddy's underhood or if I had to buy a new roll to both his be and underhood. I think I got the LED strip for about $15 shipped as I recall and the switches I used I had laying around but I don't recall them costing much more than $1 ea and they matched my seat heater toggles so I was happy. No fancy magnets or any other voodoo was used in my installation. Just a standard toggle for the bed and I wired the ground of the underhood strip to my existing hood pin switch for the alarm system. Either way, two killer mods that didn't cost much that work awesome. That strip stuff is great and I used it to make under cabinet & safe lighting too. Probably the best invention of the 20th century.

Edit: if by connectors you mean the ones that clip onto the ends of the LCD strips you don't need those. Soldering is (almost) free and simple to do and those strips are made to be soldered so it's more reliable than those clips. Personally, I wouldn't use clips for them especially in something like a motor vehicle that vibrates & bounces around all day. It's only a matter of time before your connection is wonky.

    Haha.
I love this thread. Gives me lots of ideas and makes me try to be more handy at building crap. I've got a 9 month old and schooling, so I've got to budget too.

Can't believe I don't has pic of it installed but put one of these same color in back of bed mounted to side of taillight mounting area..........

Nope.......did not peruse 57pgs to see if this has been listed already, pay me! Did not use sheetmetal screws either - used nut and bolt and put taillight back afterwards.
