I really don't think you could get them to fit without looking hillbilly. They have some strange curves to them that just wouldn't match the lines of your fenders, and they are too wide. You'd have to section the grill.

That's the plan :D I am also planning on cutting out some of the fender so they fit nice and snug, but this is all coming from my head as I haven't gotten my hands on any headlights to see how exactly it would need to get done :spy:

Headlights are cheap! They always come up in the oregon/washington craigslist ads. I bought a spare set in perfect condition for $50

Hey all, I'm taking a horribly long time to buy my shocks (mo projects mo problems, yo). However, I'm trying to make sure I've got everything thought out and trying to wrap up proposal to DSM by the end of the week.

Before I do that, can anyone else confirm if their springs work like mine? Apparently I'm too boring for the mid travel guys unless I pull the drive shaft apart and test more, and I haven't had the time to get that in depth.

The springs area tad longer than stock, and designed differently so you really can't compare unless the other guy also has AP springs. If you had a different shackle on there you could get a bit more travel out of those, but not enough to write home to ma about. The reason I say that is because the leaf pack is starting to splay out already, and that's about as far as you want to push them for reliability. Long story short, stay with stock length shocks with stock length springs. It will flex enough to get the job done. ( stock length Icon resi's on my truck almost ten years ago)

I measured the AP Expos and they were the same as stock at 57"

If I have this straight, you are advocating having stock length shocks and allowing them to be the limiters? I thought that would really put strain on them, so I was looking at custom lengths so the spring would be the limiter. If that causes problems, then it sounds like custom length shocks with limit straps is the only 'right' way of doing things

I swear one of these days I'm just going to get an old Buick and let the front bumper do the steering

I thought they were longer, interesting. When you start hanging the weight of the axle off the main leaf, it will break sooner than if you keep the pack from splaying out too bad. You should use limit straps to catch the axle, not the shocks. That said most shocks have an internal droop limiter bushing that will survive a lot of abuse. I beat on those Icon's for years without limit straps and they held up fine. I would just put a stock length shock in there and go wheeling if I was you. If you want to step it up a notch get hydraulic bump stops.

Thanks for the responses, I realized I was overthinking things. Since my shocks are short by only a small amount, I wouldn't be gaining much from a custom length, longer shock, especially not several hundred dollars worth of gain. I think the best plan at this point is to do standard length and do some limit straps for peace of mind. I assume they are pretty straightforward of an install if I can get someone to weld some mounting tabs to the axle.
The only thing left is bump stops, and I have a really hard time wrapping my head around trying to justify their cost, even though they are probably easier to set up and more accurate of an install than trying to get standard bumps. I tried searching for how to measure for standard poly bumps, and it's like I'm asking for the best way to contract leprosy, especially around this forum. It's hard to tell when things are necessary to do, and when you are talking to guys who buy a performance gas cap

Not sure who you are getting your shocks from but I know icon sells extended length rear shocks but they are a custom order. Price wise I got mine for the same as the normal ones but there was a build time on them (3 weeks I think it was?).

As for the bumpstops...I went with the superbumps. It seems like the only real way to know what works and doesn't is to install them and flex and see if you need to add spacers or not.

I'm going with DSM because they seemed more knowledgeable over the phone.
King can do custom length as well, but they don't have a specific line code for it like ICON does. They want you to send in specifications so they get it dialed specific to you. Might be overkill, but just a different way of doing it.

Also, I'm thinking I'll leave off the compression adjusters because I think they are probably just overkill.

If your in the Portland area, and want to wheel High Rocks is incredible right now. I have never seen better conditions, and it's clear of snow.

For those who haven't been there yet it's up 224 just east of Estacada on Fork Rd. across from the marina on the lake
