Here's the one SL put in last week. Never heard of the brand.
Make sure sure they replace the retention pins on both ends of the cowling. They screwed this up last time and I ended up getting water in the cab through the fan blower on the passenger side floor.. they also didn't attach the molding correctly and I lost a few pieces. $60 later for parts(which they paid for) I fixed it myself.

If it's a chip in line of sight they'll replace it...at least mine did. They actually suggested it rather than just repairing it.

For those who had Safelite replace their Taco windshield, did the rear view mirror mount come already installed or is is up to the tech to mount the mount?

I've been setting my Comprehensive deductible at $100 for the last 10+ years for exactly this reason. Windshield replacement costs me $100. Chips are repaired free with my company (USAA). My collision deductible is $1000. Interesting note, when another car was totalled by hitting a moose, since no other vehicle was involved, the comprehensive deductible applied due to wildlife being considered an act of nature.

Also, I've had several repairs and half a dozen windshields replaced by SafeLite, no issues whatsoever. They'll continue to get my business. On the Tacoma the windshield had the black sunblock along the top.

For what it's worth, when I needed a replacement and called the dealership for a price they gave me the name of the company that installs theirs at the dealership (guess it doesn't pay for the dealership to do it on their own? I almost fell off my chair when I heard that from them). Anyhow I called the local glass company that installs the dealership ones and they came to my home and replaced it for around $125. No problems with it and it looks identical to the original.

Here, SafeLite comes to my home for all work. I think all dealerships do that for glass, they do here as well.

I have a Techna Glass replacement on mine. Bought my truck used. The original owner had the OE windshield replaced at 5 months. Gotta love Utah!

The TechnaGlass seems to be of good quality, ie, no waves.

Safelite replaced the glass on my Tacoma and Rav4. Both times I requested OEM factory glass and the insurance (AAA) had to approve it. My 2007 Rav4 had the windshield replaced last year with OEM factory glass even though it was 7 years old. If you don't ask they give you their generic house brand glass which is terrible. OEM or factory, the deductible is the same.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about:

    1. Using minimal intelligence, get comp coverage as part of your insurance (costs only about $ 20/year w/USAA)
    2. When you get a rock hit call insurance co.
    3. Pay your deductible and let them handle the problem
    4. Who gives a shit if it is "Official OEM Toyota Glass" It only has to be optically clear and meet DOT requirements. Beyond that is just ego.

Well, I'm at the SL place now and they just took the truck into the shop. Wish me well.

I agree about the OEM vs certified glass. I was asking about OEM initially, because I wanted the meshing at the top and sides like what I have now. I've since learned that that standard glass the SL provides has it, so I'm fine.

As far as the glass-only deductible, I can't comment, since I've not yet contacted anyone about it.

I'll be doing the same thing here shortly. I had something hit my windshield last week. I've got State Farm and they are good about windshield replacement. Doesn't cost me a cent. The only thing I'm worried about, is the car I traded in for my Tacoma, last month, I had the windshield replaced on it in January. I just need to talk to my agent.

Got done about an hour ago. All seems to have gone well. The most noticeable "concern" I have is how much vibration the rear-view mirror now shows. It's really shaking. Is there an adjustment that I can made or is it possible that the mount adhesive still have to harden up a bit?

As a minor complaint, I can believe the glass maker put their emblem dead smack in the middle of the WS, as oposed to one of the bottom corners. It really looks like sh*t, although within a week or so, I'll probably stop noticing it.

Lastly, the molding they use is funky, meaning it sort of flares out, with a lip. It's hard to describe and the pics don't pick it up well.

My last test will be on the highway, to make sure I don't have any air leaks and of course, the 1st good rain, so I can be sure it's not leaking water into the cab.

I just had the windshield in my 2009 replaced by Safelite. I submitted a claim through their glass coverage department who worked directly with my insurance (Allstate). I have a $0 deductible on comprehensive and at first Allstate agreed to cover an aftermarket replacement windshield at no cost to me. I argued, stating I wanted OEM glass and the Safelite glass coverage team submitted by request to Allstate. They warned me that my request would most likely get denied because Allstate's policy was only to use OEM glass on the current model year and one year old. It took a few days to get a response but to my surprise I got a call from Safelite and they had my $1200 OEM Toyota windshield in stock and were calling to schedule the install. Overall I'm very satisfied by the service Safelite provided as well as the install of the windshield, again at no cost to me. Everything looks as good as new and if I didn't mention it, no one would ever notice the windshield has been replaced.
