I met a guy from Craigslist today who hated his scooped TRD Sport hood and we swapped. His was an '07 w/ 50K mi on it. His hood has scratches on it, one small chip, and a small dent. My post offered $200 cash but we settled on an even swap, so I pretty much have $200 towards dent removal and a paintjob.

About how much do you think repainting the hood would run?

    -Thanks!

808, yes that is the plan. I just wanted an average price to start out with so that I know if I'm getting ripped or getting a good deal.

Thanks JJ! I'm in Centreville about 2 hrs from Charlottesville. It'd be a hike but I would go down to Charlottesville for a good job at a good price if it could be done and driven home the same day. Can a paintjob be done in a day or do they need cure time?

I will shoot my buddy an email to see what he can do it for. He can do it in the same day, after he bakes it you will be good just don't wash it for a week or so. And yeah do the prep yourself.

Thanks JJ, I'll look forward to hearing from your friend! Please let him know that if he has a motorcycle and needs any work on it that I can take care of it when I come down there. I run a mobile motorycycle shop with my Taco.

I dropped my truck off at Maaco today after stopping by most of the body shops in my area. No one else quoted me below $600 to repaint the hood and blend the fenders. Maaco quoted me $335 to pop the dent, spot paint, blend, and clearcoat. I did look into prepping it on my own but I don't have the time.

I read plenty of horror stories about Maaco but the whole point of swapping hoods was to save money. I'd be better off just buying a new hood from Toyota instead of going for a $600 paintjob, so off to Maaco it went. Its supposed to be done tomorrow...I'll post pics when I get it back!

This should be interesting.... I can't wait to see how it comes out. I have heard horror stories, but its just the hood. No major body work so it should be a breeze. can't wait for the pics.

My g/f is home sick today and she was nice enough to stop by the Maaco while she was out. She says the truck looks great and the hood looks like new! She said she walked up and took a close look at it and everything's good. I'm looking forward to picking her up today! :-D

Actually Toyota is Quoting $2000 for a new hood painted.

My hood had to be replaced (along with roof, upright pillars, fenders and door skins) so I got them to "upgrade" it to the scoop hood for $200 extra.

I picked up the truck yesterday evening and it looks pretty good. Its a $300 paintjob, nothing more, nothing less. There are some minor imperfections in the paint but nothing you can see unless you go looking for them. The hood wasn't removed for the paint job and there is some minor overspray onto the metal grill inside the hood scoop. The one real mess-up they did is they scratched my right fender where it meets the edge of the hood while sanding. I pointed it out and they wrote on the invoice that I could come back at my convenience for them to buff and clearcoat that area. I'm at work now but I'll take pics and post when I get home this evening. Overall I'm pretty happy with the whole thing and the truck looks better!

Anyone notice how the scoop looks enormous from inside the cab but its kind of small from the outside?
