Hello team, Have you mounted a CB radio? Where did you pull the power from? Any wiring instructions for a newbie?
Also, what brand CB do you have?

How many amps are required? You may be able to get switched power from the fuse box behind the coin tray using an add a circuit.

Just attach direct to the battery and then make sure you have an inline fuse on your hot wire.

Edit: just installed a Uniden 980 SSB in my truck and it's awesome!

I'm not sure at this time. It depends on the brand of radio. I want to avoid hot wiring...winch will do that anyway.

^This for easy-peasy. HAM is wired directly and fused so it will run while parked, CB is just for entertainment while I'm driving..
CB limit is 5w on Tx so it's going to draw around 0.4A.. Rx is much less.

Kind of off the subject and I realize there are many options out there. Other than off roading what do you guys use your CB for? I've been looking to put one in my center console.

I would argue no...batteries, etc. are required plus range is super limited. What's the end goal with the CB for your use? And why don't you want it hard wired just out of curiosity?

If you really don't want to splice, add a fuse or use the cigarette lighter outlet.
If you think this is the beginning of a whole lot of mods (which it will be now that your on TW) you might just want to think about adding an extra fuse block like a lot of us have done. I have and I absolutely love it.

As for this, I also use mine for the PA upfront, as well as when in on the highway listening to truckers. 1) Its funny 2) they sometimes call out where highway patrol is hiding (not that I condone taking advantage of the police or speeding)
As well, I always like having it just for emergencies. Channel 9 is the emergency one so sometimes I just leave it on that to see if anyone needs help.

I agree with LJ, just use an add a circuit. I used the number 4 fuse for my aftermarket LED daytime running lights which pull about 2 amps. I've been running this set up for about 4 months with no ill effect and it's a switched power source.

    Regards,

The only advantage I could see besides off road is listening to the truckers notify of a trooper taking radar. Don't think I would ever use it in any other situation but I like toys :)

well if I really had the time and money.. I would get into HAM... but that starts getting expensive faaasst and seems to suck you in just like TW.

Ha, thanks. Nothing stopping me but I do not want to hot wire(static drain etc) and "scared" to splice factory wire unless I see a utube video or some pictures etc. I guess I will have to splice anyway.

Since I run an amp as well, I have a pos and neg coming right off the batteries, into the cab.

I don't think you understand how an add-a-fuse works.
There are unused switched power fuse slots behind your change tray, you plug in a fuse with a wire to your cb, then ground the other negative wire to any bolt under the dash.

It was harder to get the antenna set up..

Very interested and this sounds like the way to go. Any how-to on this(adding an extra fuse box)?
