2011 DC Window Rattle

KB Voodoo, I think you may have solved the problem! When I pressed the area where the holes are up in the top left corner of the driver's side door, I could definitely hear the "sticking/unsticking" sound on the INSIDE. I am hesistant to put WD40 though bc of the smell and thinking it may gum up overtime. I think I'm gonna try Breakfree CLP and see how that works and report back. I'll keep using 303 on the OUTSIDE bc I did find that help for the outside of it sticking to the door frame itself. You think Toyota would have used better materials for this though!!!!

 

So after doing some research, I don't think it would be wise to use regular WD40 on the rubber seals. A silicone based lubricant would be best. WD40 does have a silicone lubricant and there are a few others out there like CRC (chute lube and food grade silicone) that are odorless. I will try one of these and see how well it works over time.

 

So far all is still good with mine.

 

That's great news man! This problem really has annoyed the heck outta me....hopefully it's for good this time lol!

 

Even if the seal gets sticky again, sanity is a simple squirt away.

 

Update on the silicone spray, I tried Voodoo's method of spraying in the holes with Blaster Silicone spray since it received great reviews on Amazon and other sites. Unfortunately, I can still here the "sticking/unsticking" noise when driving. I did notice that there is also another web stripping with holes on the INSIDE attached to the door frame of the truck that I pressed on and heard the "sticking" noise. I only sprayed the inside of the stripping on the actual door itself, so I will spray this other stripping when I get home.

Now I just have to figure out what other lube I can try. I feel like I'm almost to the point of just using the WD40, but I am still nervous that over time it will mess up the rubber. Aerospace 303 seems to work but only for about a month then it comes back. I was thinking of maybe trying a gun type lube like Breakfree CLP....thoughts?

Also, for yall that have tried Voodoo's method, do any of yall have in-channel window visors?

I used a combination of sil glyde and wd40. Per kb voodoo's advice sprayed wd40 in the holes on the door seal and the truck seal. Then per flowin's advise I used sill glyde on the outside of the seals on the both the door and truck. It has been 4 days and still have silence. Noise was driving me crazy. Thanks for help.

 

The noise came back for me today.

It must have dried out in there, so I sprayed some silicone in there during lunch, and it's gone again.

 

That sucks. Mine still is gone. Hopefully for a long time

 

It's no big deal. Took 30 seconds to make it disappear again.

 

I found that the noise for me is coming from the weather stripping around the window, where it contacts the door frame. You must peel it back gently and lube up the area where the rubber stripping contacts the door. Been using 303, but I will try this Napa product next time as the 303 is not very permanent.

 

...if you think it's the door seal, you might try to put dielectric silicone grease on the seals, I suppose start w/ what is believed to be the nuisance area... the silicone grease will form a better seal w/ the glass/rubber and may curtail the vibration/noise... don't go too heavy on applying it, ..just spread it on as a light coating w/ your finger...

This is the stripping I'm 90% sure is making noise for mine. Put some 303 along the inside of the stripping, but that only worked a little. Any suggestions on what to put in here to quiet the rubber squeeking against the door?

 

Any problems with WD40 on this? I know it melts plastic, is it safe to use with the rubber?

 

Only reason I havent tried it is bc of window tint I have

 

Good point. Mine has been making noise for a month.

 

No problem with my tint. But was careful not to get any on the window
