Keep tire psi up. Keep rpm <2500. Go 65 instead of 75. Go 60 instead of 65. Don't tote a bunch of stuff around. Don't go bigger than 265 tires.

I'm trying to get 230 miles with the current tank of fuel. I've never coasted so much in my fucking life.

Biggest trick is staying under 2000 RPM on the highway and around town if possible.

I've got a 14DCSB Prerunner 4.0 V6. On average I get between 19 and 20mpg. Most I've averaged is 23mpg on the interstate. Most miles I've gotten on a single tank before the light came on was 363 miles. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

Maybe 2500 RPM for a manual is the sweet spot for MPGs, but the difference for me in being at 2000 RPM or below on the highway and being at 2500 RPM is a couple MPGs on my config.

I have the 4.0, but best I have ever done was 19.7 mpg. Normally I get around 17.5 mpg.

I was 4280 with a half tank. DMV made me get weighed when I registered after moving here.

If you're 1000 lbs more, no need to say more.

If you are using a scan gauge it is not the true MPG. A scan gauge gives you an average using algorithms. It is not actual MPG. Using a scan gauge or any other electronic device or on board comupter for MPG is like using wind chill for temperature.
The only way to calculate MPG and get an accurate calculation is to fill the tank, record the miles, drive the vehicle, then divide the actual miles driven by the number of gallons replaced at the next fill up. ;)

What's "funny" is and what people don't realize...

Everything is different of the members commenting:
    -different topography people drive on
    -different local elevation
    -winter v. summer fuel
    -cold v. warm temperature
-city driving v. suburban driving (yes, it's different than city v. highway)

lolzzz this kind of just made my day reading this.

2.7L 4x4 lifted on 265/75s i got the worst ever this winter of 17mpg mixed city and highway. Last couple fill ups 19mpg mixed driving, and just starting to nudge 20mpg now. Best ever was 23mpg. Sucks when you see that new half ton dodges, chevy, and fords are now getting mid 20s with V8s
