Any duck hunters on here? I have been stationed outside Arkansas for the last 7 years, so I may have gotten maybe one day a year in.

Now that I have moved to Cabot, I'm dying to go! I have already "internet scouted" several Wildlife Management Areas and will go out once the weather is a little better.

Anyone here duck hunt? Anyone a member of a lease that has an opening?

I used to be a big duck hunter. I still loved it, but with two kids I can't do everything I like. I mainly deer hunt now. With that said duck leases can be expensive. To many public places to go around here for me to spend that much money. With a boat the options are almost endless. I could do really good hunting creeks around greenbrier with a canoe even. I may try that next year. Close to my house and no competition.

What's the reason for the trip?

I love hunting public grounds. I just don't have a boat. There was a sweet little canoe left out by the street in my neighborhood yesterday, already camo'd and everything and some old codger snagged it up literally as I was turning the corner to get it!

I'm pretty big in duck hunting.. However, If plans stay solid, I might not be hunting in Arkansas as I'm likely moving to CO before the season starts.

Where have you hunted? Do you have a boat? Would you like to sell that boat? Do you know anywhere that it is walk-in friendly?

Give me a few minutes and i'll think of a few more questions.

lol.. I usually hunt public land. Mostly boat in areas. I have hunted some private land around central AR. I do not have a boat though. I've hunt mostly around central AR or North East, around Jonesboro. I can't say that I've been to many places that you can just walk to a hole. Not public land anyways.

Headed to Cotter/Mountain Home to do some fishing. Apparently now there's a Flash Flood Watch in effect until Saturday morning, which sucks. As long as it's not thundering and lightning I'll be on the water all night tomorrow night anyway.

That sucks. I gotta find a buddy with a boat or some shallow water. Not even remotely deep...I'm 5'6.

Wake up and go with them one morning, as long as you don't fall in, you'll be hooked.

Actually, scratch that. It sucks, it's cold and you'll get hungry.

Tell them you have a kick ass friend who needs to go and then message me what time and where to meet.

When I first started duck hunting I was 16 and didn't have a boat. We would go to a WMA called Rainy Break. They have walk in sections, but the boat sloughs always cut off the walking paths off. Our solution was to carefully float on the decoy bags and cross the sloughs. We turned floating on decoy bags into a art form. We would work for it, but we could go deep into the woods that way. Looking back I can't believe we did that...but where there is a will there is a way.

Now THAT is dedication. 30 degrees outside and doing that took some cahones!

I have an exclusive plan involving a Beaver Tail medium sized sled and some black or green pool floaties. It should be interesting.

Hahaha. I have memories of going dove hunting with my older cousins when I was 7 or 8. The two things I remember most about those hunts was how bored I was and how grateful I was for the biscuits I had stuffed in my coat pockets to snack on and keep my hands warm. Those are enough to keep me away from duck hunting.

On a related note, the most expensive meal I have ever eaten was duck. My uncle shot one out of season right in front of a game warden that he didn't realize was there. He got fined $500 but the warden let him keep the duck. Sure didn't taste like a $500 meal.
