Had my spare mounted on a bed rack but recently bought a topper. I'd lay it down but I have quite a few things I need to load so I'm trying to save space.

I recall reading reviews about a bed rail mounting plate that could mount a spare upright but didn't hold up very well to the spare moving around and ultimately warped the bed and bed rails. Trying to avoid anything breaking.

I used the sliding bed cleat then ratchet down to the bed wall cleat. Spare doesn't move sense its pressed against the bed wall. I thought about looping a pull strap down towards that bottom left bed cleat also.

Also, not going wheeling. Just going camping for a week to various National Parks with the family. Thanks fellas.

I have had mine mounted like that for a while now and i have had no issues so far. I did use a strap on both sides of the tire though.

Probably won't be an issue. But, I'd put it on the passenger side since you already have enough weight on that side of the truck with you and the fuel tank (Taco lean).

Perfect, thanks. But what do you mean both sides of the tire?

    Heres where I'm at now.

Yeah, I thought about that... which is the reason my hi-lift is currently mounted on the right because of that. Granted it doesn't weight much, but now its definitely offset with a full size spare.

I'll play around with the set up, but good to know I'll be fine. Thanks guys

I will not trust the side rail cleats for mounting, why don't use the bottom floor rings to strap it down. As was said use the passenger side, I was curious, there isn't enough room under carriage?
